Hi,

Which model paints can isopropanol (IPA) be used to thin effectively for spraying? I have Tamiya paints but dont want to keep buying their expensive thinner.

Can I use IPA with Tamiya?

Thanks
Dave

Dave,
You can use IPA with Tamiya, but having had a problem after breathing the stuff, I would say that if you buy the Tamiya Thinners in a 250 mil bottle it is not too badly priced and I find is the best product being specifically designed by them.

Isopropanol is readily passed through the lungs into the bloodstream and can cause problems aside from getting drunk and thinking that everything is funny.

In the 250 mil container, the Tamiya is quite good value.

Cheers John,

Based on that, I think that I will use the tamiya thinners until I finished building my spray cabinet with fume extraction...

Ahoy Dave,

Some modelers thin their acrylics with windshield wiper fluid (the blue stuff).

Very cheap and some swear by it. It contains some detergent reducing
surface tension when applied.

I have used it with Tamiya paint without incident.

Never use Windex (Window & mirror cleaner) .......it contains ammonia and destroys acrylics!

As usual try on a test model before applying to a masterpiece.

Cheers,
Joe

I'll continue experimenting...
