Hey there modelers, you know all of those old kits just lying around in your closet taking-up space, and although you tell yourself that you will build them, you never do (especially all those old out-dated TAMIYA kits). You "could" auction them off on ebay for a few bucks, or you could do something smarter and better. Give them to me a young modeller who is low on cash, and needs ecouragement to stay in the hobby, I am at the cars/girls age. PM me about cleaning-out your closet. I'll even pay for shipping if I accept your generous donation and post the photos of the finished work on armorama for you to enjoy!

Here's a comment.

Begging for free models turns most people off. Not a good idea.
Get a part-time job.

If I had some I'd give em to you but I need mine. I asked for some free stuff too and got the same snarly comments. Just ignore em.

Most of us "old guys" were taught at an early age to work for what we got. I got 25 cents a week to take out the garbage and wash the dishes. Models cost 50 cents back then. At 16 I went to work at a golf course for a buck forty an hour. So, yea, we aren't too keen on teenagers begging for models.

I didn't mean to be inflamitory, I just noticed alot of complaints from a ton of mdelers having stockpiles of old kits they didn't need or want and thought they would rather pass them on to a fellow young modeller

Personally I can't fault the guy for asking. Let us all remember what it was like being a teenager. I also had a job, loved building models, but my money had to go to other things, not models, so I would stand in front of the Tamiya models at the local shop and drool. But I could not afford to buy them. Almost all of mine came as gifts from my christmas wish list or my birthday.

One way to let someone know that you dont approve of how they ask for something might be in a private message, suggesting how they might change the wording of thier post. It sucks to be called out in public for something like this and be made to feel dumb.

Chutzpah, I think the kids got some.

I prefer to say I'm middle aged...yeah, I don't buy it either.
I have to agree, it never hurts to ask, but I think my stash will be given to my son. Dubdub, try your LHSs...I've found quite a few pieces{old tam/dml/ital} given to these shops as consignment and done so quite cheaply...roughly $5.00 to 10.00 for these old kits each. Ebay is another possible source if they're cheap enough kits. Also garage sales in your area can yield some treasures...that's the best I can give you...

My suggestion is to join a local club, show that you are sincere and not looking for a handout. Modellers are by nature a fairly generous bunch, well at least in our club they are. In our club we often exchange parts and even whole kits. Our younger members have even rec'd kits for them to start on and try their skills on.

clicks

*&$&^%(& Spelling for modellers. It's clique. At least it's not it's not the all time worst offense of 'turrent'.

DubDubs,

If you lived in the DFW area and I'd met you at some model function then I might donate some half-finished kit that I would likely never complete.

Ebay is a good place to look if you're short on cash, i have to save every penny i get for gas money. last month i'd saved up some extra cash looked on ebay, found a T-34/76 from Dragon bought it for sixteen bucks the kits actually worth something like 26$. saved some cash.
but hey it doesn't hurt to ask.
