Need help with blueprint to model measurments

Im working on my Dead Reckoning model now and Im having some trouble with all the angles for my blueprint. Imagine a blueprint for a tank. On the blueprint you will see 2-D shapes of angled panels. Whether you are looking at the top or a side, if you cut this panel directly from the drawing it will not be the correct size. This is because the true dimensions of the plate are hidden in the line drawing. This plate might be at a 45' pitch, but when looking at it from one side it will be shorter than it should be.

How do I deal with this? Things get even more complicated when you have several plates that are all at different angles! This has got to be the most frustrating aspect of scrathbuilding for me. Any help would be appreciated.

Two suggestions:
1. Start doing trigonometry, i.e. start calculating angles ;-) In the side view
you get the height of a triangle with one 90-degree corner, in the top view
you get width (or bottom of the triangle). The measurement for the plate
in question is the third side of the triangle. This really needs a diagram
to explain properly. You can do it by drawing and measuring on a paper,
draw a vertical line which as long as the "height" you can measure in the
side view, then draw a horisontal line (i.e. at 90 degrees angle to the first
line from the "foot" of the vertical line) which is as long as the "width" measured in the top view. Now you have something which looks like
an 'L' . Now you can measure the third side in this triangle.
It will get complicated when you have a plate which "slopes" in two
directions, then you will have to do three calculations or diagrams since
the "length" of the plate (front to rear on the vehicle) will also be hidden and the "sides" need to be calculated from two pairs of "width & height".

2. Build a framework with starting with the "easy" corners and then measure from edge to edge or corner to corner. This is basically the
method above but moved from flat paper into three dimensional plastic.
Locate and measure the edges where plates meet, build up the edge
from plastic sheet and then measure the distances between the edges.

No no no! What I want is the url for the magic dust that you sprinkle on stuff to make it happen the way you want! Bah math.

Jk, of course I knew this but I was hoping for a less technical way about it. That is absurd as Im using technical drawings and desire a technical form. Thanx for the help though. Ill work on it some more, and when I get the urge to hook my scanner/printer up to tis comp Ill have some better examples.

To start an other project, I'm looking for pics or, better, plans of the truck we can see a George Romero 2005 movie : Land of the Dead / Dead reckoning, with Simon Baker.
