I was interesting for me ,from Idaho,USA to put out an inquiry for plans for an Italian Kit and get an answer from a guy in Sweden who told me about a hit on French e-bay. My Brother in-law who works for Microsoft went to a Christmas party in Seattle where he was the only one one whose native language was english. Personally I think its wonderful for this to happen because of the great exchange of information and points of view. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when its open.

I understand what you mean. The internet has opened many new avenues that were not available for say, 10-15 years ago. With all of the different search sites around throwing out a quick search takes no time at all. But I must say that this modelling network is by far is one of the most friendly around the net. If I didn't help you, I'm most defintely sure someone else would have. We are all just a bunch of fun-loving modelling-junkies, that are willing to give what help we can.

Happy New Year!

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the sentiments on the forum. I am very happy that in 5+ years now we have built up such an International community of modelers. The Internet is truly a marvel at times.

Jim

WOW! That's some numbers..... How many though, has sign up for the country that they live in for the moment instead for the country where they were born? Like me, I'm a Swede but I live here in Glasgow Scotland.... :-) :-) :-)

I've always figured the numbers were rather suspect. Just a random check of users from Vatican City makes me think that none of the three actually live there.

One member has a Michigan university e-mail address, another is from Hong Kong. I bet the third is not from the Vatican either.

Cool! I was born in Sodertalje. Stockholm is a great place in the summer, but you don't have the midnightsun like further up north....
Like in Ostersund where I lived before I moved here.

I wish these forums had been in use about ten years ago when I did a model of a finnish built ship in 1840 for a Lutheran church where I used to live in Alaska. I got the info by snail mail and from people who were traveling there, but the project may have gone a lot quicker with the aid of the internet. Anyway It was a fun project maybe one of these days I can get one of my old acquaintances there to send me some digital photos.

It would be nice if everyone selected the country they live in,
at least where they live permanently.
It is of course a matter of taste but ....

Maybe the internet could become a peace project .... ;-)

Hey, it works for me. I was actually able to get detailed directions from a modeler in California to a hobby shop in Seoul, South Korea!!!! Where else can you get that kind of info?

On the other hand, the lone correspondent from the D.P.R.K does have me scratching my head.
