The other day a local radio station had a thing about the most popular "little white lies" of Christmas. Things like "but of course, we'd love to have to come and stay for Christmas." (This normally said through tightly clenched teeth.) "Oh, you don't need to get me anything this year." (Said while leafing through the latest jewelry store catalog. ) "Let's forget about the materialism and get back to the real spirit of Christmas." (which of course means we can get back to the spirit just as soon as I get that diamond ring I've been hinting for.)
So what are your favorite little white lies? Mine HAS to be "What, this old kit? I've had it for years." (Said when SWMBO notices the DML Sherman III up in the closet.)

None of the above have worked for me either, neither has:
"But I haven't bought anything for a year or so"
or
"It helps the economy of developing nations"
still searching for foolproof lie, may be I should try the truth :-)
cheers

Currently it's,
- "yes honey{said to my 4 yr old daughter}, daddy uses the same wrapping paper as santa"
- "yes honey{daughter again}, this package from hong kong{marked from lucky models}, is mommy's gift....shhhhhhhhhhh!"
- "no dear{wife this time after daughter dimed me off about the above gift...gonna half to start bribbing her!}, I pre-ordered this kit long ago...and besides, look at the price, only $18.00...half what they get from the LHS, let me show you this other one I got last week..."
- "yes dear{wife now}, I'd love to go to your mothers for christmas..and let the kids play with the toys you used to have as a kid{yeah, they're that old}..."
...gonna have to think hard in a few days, that $70.00 cromwell resin E-10 from ebay is due in...merry christmas to me{and that's no lie...till/if she finds out-hehe}

Try this one, "I got it through a swap. Don't you remember me bringing a box to the post office?"
Works best when you bring one of those free USPS priority mail boxes to work with you several days before you make your LHS visit. The box, of course, is empty.

ROFL :-) :-) Used that too many times :-) :-)
After always receiving samples from Costas and Engin, I now usually just say "it was from Costas" when she enquires about the parcel I fetched from the Post Office... stictly speaking it's true.... the part I left out was that it was a swap... my cash for his figures :-) :-)

- Yes.. it is a new kit but I bought that one for our kids, thinking it is correct timing for them to have a nice hobby.
- No...dont pay attention to the bottles and labels look same , they are all different tones of Olive drab and I bought some of them about 10 years ago.
- No Mom, who told I neglect my wife for modelling ? They are jealous on me because I got all medals on local show.
Thanks Rodger for this great topic.you made my day.

Luckily I haven't had to lie about buying kits for a while. And since the wife bought the Dyson 14 Animal, I won't have to for years...

I've been very lucky with intercepting the postman and squirrelling the packets away ,if my wife asks who was at the door I say it was someone collecting for charity
and If she sees me opening a packet I say it's a review sample.
Strangely since I showed her a website where you can buy luxury items from her home country Finland she doesn't moan about me buying kits online.
