I've got plenty of the same vehicle but by different brands as well as the exact same kit by the same maker or a reboxed maker. Easily a few dozen duplicates.

Yep, guilty. I'd have to look at my stash, but Tiger I's from Tamiya, DML, and AFV Club come to mind, as well as SdKfz 251's from the same.

So far this is one thing I haven't done too much. I have made the Jeep from both Tamiya and Italeri, but that was more to see how they compared than anything else. I've also built the Duce N a Half from both the above companies, but the Italeri one is a hard top, so that doesn't really count. Now that so many great Shermans are coming out I'll probably not build the Tamiya kits I've got in the stash. Right now I'll using them for different parts, and accessories, to change or "spruce up" the DML kits.

Thank goodness for spell check. I fat fingered thing in the above post. When I spell checked I caught it. "So far this is one THONG..." wouldn't have had quite the same meaning. :-)

Argggghh the T34 by Maquette--- rough kit to make, it really annoyed me. Good luck on that one!

Probably has more to do with the overall "age" of the stash than anything else. I have only a few duplications in the form of a couple Sherman family by both DML and Academy and DML and Tristar for the Pz I-A and the Pz IVs. I do it either because the variants are slightly different (early vs. late for example) or because of interest in comparing different ways of tackling the same vehice.

Ahoy all,

Interesting post and I was going to follow up when I realized I can't........ :-)

I my case, I have not been able to buy and stash the same model by different
companies and build the better one.

This being that in the last 20 years or so no 2 companies were making
the same model.....u-boats! It was even hard to find a u-boat......period.
I was limited to the offerings by Revell, Academy and the rare Nichimo.

I managed with these kits for years accurizing them as best I could.

There were those little 1:400 scale ones but a little small for my liking.

Well, things have changed......u-boats and fleet subs surfacing everwhere :-) !
and very nice ones too.

Now I am curious to see what model sub will be offered by a second company
then I will be in the same situation as the rest of you :-)

PS I can think of 2 kits of the same sub but one offering was a very
bad copy of the other.

Have a nice day and happy modelling!

I am outta here.........................................

Oh definitely...mainly Tamiya and Dragon tank kits. I have a couple of ships like the 350 scale Bismarck from Tamiya and academy and the Yamato from some clone company and Tamiya.

This question actually made me think a bit about what I have and why I got it. The only model in my small (25-30) kit stsh that fits this bill is the good old Sherman. Other than that, the kits I have been buying lately are not so much based on subject as Manufactorer. I have just about every Tristar kit and I'm not a huge german fan. I have or will soon have both Tasca kits. I have some of the latest DML super kits as well. The thing I've realized is that I am most influenced by quality and or "ease" of construction. I have several kits of subjects that I really want to do but the kit is of dubious quality meaning I will have to do a lot of work to get the result I want. I guess I want to spend the limited modeling time I have on something that will yield a great result without hundreds of hours of effort. Or maybe I'm just lazy and I need to suck it up and tackle that Valentine on the shelf.
Hope this isn't to far off track.

Rob

Don't have a stash per se, but do have lots of Sdkfz 251 kits from Tamiya, Dragon & AFV Club! Also Tamiya & Dragon Tigers, Italaeri & Dragon Sdkfz 234 series (do you notice a trend here, viz as the better Dragon kit comes out the subject is remade?), & same PzIV kit boxed as Tamiya (original '70s) & Academy, my how the dies have worn! LOL Will have Tamiya & Dragon Stugs when I can get myhands on new Dragon one! Also late PzIV, I'm waiting Dragon... BTW does the fact that box art for Dragon 234/1 shows Ford 3000 truck in background mean they are thinking of bringing one out, also Studebakers on Puma box (cf US half tracks in background on Late Tiger etc)?

"Kanonenwagen from DML and AFV Club
M4 Sherman from Tamiya and Italeri.

Etc, etc, etc...... Variety and competition are good!

It only counts if they are the same scale.
I'd love to build "older" Tamiya versions of the DML kits I love. I'd definitely build the Flak88, a 250 halftrack, etc, maybe even "beefing them up" with the DML parts.
So far I haven't built the same vehicle twice.

Not something I'm generally guilty of and this is the reason my reference library is very small.

However, in saying that, in 1/72 scale I have 9x F-4 Phantoms and 4x A-37 Dragonflys. The Phantoms are a fascination for me, have been ever since I was a kid. The A-37s, not sure. The Academy kit was the first kit I completed when I came back into the hobby and I really enjoyed it. I decided I wanted to do one in each of the main colour schemes used by the USAF. Any other kits I have a maximum of 2.

I tend to collect/build kits around a theme rather than a specific plane. For instance, I have a collection of 1/72 Vietnam-era COIN and close support aircraft. I also want to do a 1/48 USN WWII Pacific Theatre theme as well.

Cheers
Wiz

Try not too but I keep on finding really cool versions of the same vehicle. So guilty as charged.
