Don't worry, the rum in the coke preserves your insides from any harm. :-)

I've alway found neat bleach a great way of removing Chrome plating and it does it almost instantly.

The rum just pickles yer innards; for true longevity use Jameson(tm) Irish Whiskey! it's not just fer breakfast anymore.....

Dave - the rum would never make it to the coke on this technique.
Don't forget to drop some pennies in too, they'll get a nice cleaning

You know some that just dawned on me, when watching that particlar episode of Mythbusters. They used the Coke to clean the chrome on the bumper of a vehicle. I wonder if it was removing that type of chrome too...
In regards to the rum. I can't touch the stuff anymore, I had a real bad experience about 20 years ago (Bacardi 151 and Jolt Cola). I, to this day can't stand the smell of rum. Give me a good single malt any day though.

Coke has long been an "approved" chrome cleaner for automobiles :-) I've used it since the 1960's for that purpose. One caution "only good on real metal / chrome don't use it on the NEW plastic chrome trim - different kind of bonding".
If you want a real treat, put a little raw meat in a pie pan and pour Coke over it, leave it set over night and check the effects :-) Actually takes about 48 hours for the Coke to disolve a 1/2 chunk of meat.
Some may remember the Coke syrup, they used to have at Soda Fountains (Damn that dates me). Never get that stuff on your skin or any soft tissue it will raise a blister on contact with soft tissue areas.
P.S. - It will also disolve metal nails !!!!! Really not such bad stuff though, when you consider that PURE Distilled Water will etch glass ???

thats the ticket bleach takes it right off. There's 8 billion Coke myths too, i think even snopes has a bunch. Anyone that worried about bleach fumes must live in one filthy house(not to mention how many allergies they probably have from non-exposure to irritants and chemicals and a weak immune system).
