Can anyone advise me on some tips for making 1/48 scale seatbelts? I need to make one for my 1/48 Hurricane and am not sure what type of tape to use for the belt, and wire to build the buckles.
As well, if anyone has some photos of the Sutton Harness style belt found in this plane it would be VERY helpful! Thanks for any help!

for most harnesses, regular low tack masking tape works best in any scale... I would imagine there are photos floating around on the web, pick a search engine and see what comes up...

Tape works good but you may want to double it up to get the right thickness in 1/48 scale. Just take two pieces of tape (about 3-4 inches long), put them together (sticky to sticky) and then cut your seatbelts to size. Buckles can be made with small pieces of wire bent to form a buckle.

Do you have any lead foil or wine bottle foil available? I have done some seat belts with that and they come out very well. They hold thier shape very well. I use brass hobby wire. I form it to shape and flatten with smooth pliers if I need a flat section. I shape it first the flatten it by squeezing the final shape.

Hi Pugilist,
I will be posting picture of the Sutton Harness, along with some pics of a scratch built one (using PE) OK so not totally scratch built. On the Spitfire group build thread. Hopefully tonight.

Don't hold your breath though, I've just been over there and the Webshot hosted pics have disappeared again
If I can't get the pic up I'll email it to you.

Hi pugilist,
IU like to use aluminium foil, as seen in the chinese takeaway packs. They are easy to manipulate, cheap to get, good to paint, and good scale size.

Hi Pugilist,
PM me with your email address and I will send you the pic of the Sutton harness. It's a drawing and is nice and clear.
I normally use PE buckles and wine bottle foil ,but in the Hurricane I'm trying to post I used the paper wrapping that is inside the foil that holds scalpel blades. :-)
