Attention fellow armour modellers,
I am about to start a 1/35 scale model of the Challenger 2E using the Tamiya kit as the basis. My problem is this, the only guide i have is the fantastic model in the Osprey Modelling Manual of this tank.Having tried to do my own research of this AFV on the web everybody seems to have their own version but most seem to clash between a version being offered to the greek military and the desertised version used by the british. What i need to know is which one is correct ?.One shows chally 1tracks,another chally 2 tracks.
SOMEBODY HELP ME !!!!. Squeeky 1968

Hi Dann,

I hope I am not adding to your confusion but the British do not use the Challenger 2E. The British desertized Challenger 2 is still just a Challenger 2.

In regards to the Challenger 2E suspension here is what Jane's Defence says:

"It also features second-generation hydrogas suspension, an improved hydraulic track tensioner operated by the driver, rubber tyred idler and a second-generation double-pin track with rubber pads more suited to global use."

I take this as it has standard Challenger 2 style tracks.

The Challenger 2s with Oman still use the Challenger 1 style track.

Greece has rejected the Challenger 2E in favor for the Leopard 2HEL.

The Greek trial Challenger 2Es I have seen images of have the standard Challenger 2 tracks.

Dear Jason,
Many thanks for the feedback,it has certainly cleared up the confusion over the tracks. Now all i need is to lay hands on some pictures of the rear of the real omani tank.If you or anyone else knows where i could lay my hands on some,i would be very grateful.
Dan Greenway.
