I'm re-evaluating who mine is - I just picked up a book from the library a week or so ago. The name is something like 'The Art of War' and it's all about military paintings and drawings from Picaso to Bill Maudlin.
There are some fantastic paintings in the book.

not really something to do with military art but I'm a huge fan of Norman Rockwell Although he did some US Propaganda posters
His drawings are so lifelike and recognizable for everybody even if you are not a Citizen of the USA

Got 2 books with all his work in it.

Another which I really like is Ron Volstad.. It is the diversity of his drawings that I like.... I seems not to matter what subject you give the man he will make something very good out of it. Also it is a friendly chap as I spoke to him this weekend after I attended a lecture of him

With friendly greetz

Wow Jan, that's a tough one. There are so many greats ones. Keith
Ferris was mentioned but he is still one of my favorite aviation artists.
Don Troiani the artist who usually paints subject matter from the
American War Between the States, is just outstanding, IMO. . . He
actually owns three (or more — memory is shaky) ACS field pieces.

I sure have seen a lot of gerat artists names posted here. I am surprised no one mentioned Robert Taylor. I love all his stuff. Stan Stokes is another one of my favorites along with Keith Ferris. For US Civil War, I have a Troiani and a Kunsler that I treasure. I have met and like the work of John Paul Strain and also have some stuff by Dale Gallon.

For ground infantry I like what I've seen from Jim Dietz and Wooten.

The war art of the German Exdpressionist Otto Dix is some of the strongest I've seen. You can see examples here
