I received the following mail from George Winship (of MDF in PE) re. the supply of Humbrol and Testors enamels. For those who aren't subscribing to his newsletters, you may find this interesting...
Quoted Text
To those of you that do not yet know of the Humbrol paint production story, Heller, the production company that produces, Airfix and Humbrol paint, have stopped producing these two ranges of products.
What that means for the local model industry here in South Africa, is that there will be no new stocks of the Humbrol paint available until production is sorted out.
Word has it that Hornby has taken over these 2 brand names, but I still have to confirm this, as the news so far is all speculation and even on the websites with regards to this matter, I am unable to get a clear cut answer to what availability will be of the Humbrol paint and Airfix model kits.
M.D.F. will continue to carry Humbrol paint while stocks last.
I am doing a search to find out what is available to replace Humbrol paint if it is no longer available.
The local supplier has not indicated to me as to what their plan of action is, with regards to the shortage of Humbrol paint.
With regards to the Testors range of paint, I now have to go onto the web and buy directly from the U.S.A. as the local supplier is no longer replacing their stock that is sold out.
Here to M.D.F. will continue to carry Testors paint.
With the ever changing exchange rate, any new paint stock brought in from the U.S.A. will have to carry the new prices.
So starts another chapter in the plastic model hobby – if anybody has any up dates on this paint issue, please do forward them onto me so that I can follow up on this matter, so that I can keep the paint flowing.
Groete,
Rudi
