Hi Tom,

If you can, get a copy of or take a look at the book "How to Build Dioramas" by Shepard Paine. There are a few pages in there that discuss how to build scratch furniture. I really recommend his books. I have had mine for several years and they have more than paid for themselves.

Just my two cents worth.

My dad (and myself to some extent) used to make miniature doll houses. Of course furniture was a part of that as well. This was all pre Internet era but I would suggest searching the source!!! Look for doll house, miniature doll house furniture, etc on the web. For simple furniture get a subject and break it down to geometric shapes, then add details. Really thats true for all scratch building. For a chair select sheet styrene and cut out panels to represent the rails and styles then connect sub assemblies such as the back, sides, seat. For curios, bookcases, chests, etc its really just boxes with some detail. Good luck!!!
