Verlinden did a set of US insignia that are just decals. Archer may also do a set.

If neither of Rob's suggestions are availble to you or the patches/chevrons aren't available commercially you can scan them into your computer, clean them up in a photo program. Then save them as .jpg's Insert them into a WOrd program as you would clip art and resize them by grabbing a corner "handle". Make multiple copies of several sizes and print that out on regular paper to check which size is best for your figure. Save just the ones that fit. Now, you can either search down some dacal papaer that's designed for a n injet printer and make your own decal or simply print hem on white typing paper. Seal the ink when it is dry with something like MicroScale's decal saver. When this is dry, carefully cut the emble from the paper, apply soe thinned white glue to the figure and to the back of the emblem. This will soften the paper allowing you to get this into the creases. Carefully press this down and let the glue dry. Seal it with Dullcoat when dry.

Hola!

You can either go with the decals or the printed version like mentioned above, or you can paint the chevrons on the figure. Another way to go about it is to roll some putty out, put a little of the thin putty on the figure and then using a wet x-acto knife blade to press/cut the desired shapes and detail in the soft putty.

Just to add to what Rob said, Archer has a really nice set of dry transfer insignia for the US army (along with others) that has multitudes of insignia, enough to last quite a while, and it costs about $10 US.
