I think they should investigate further, and find the actual weight where it will cease to bounce from that height.

I #think#, it's not the weight, but the force. Silly putty is very fluid when the force is applied slowly; but its structure behaves as if it was brittle when the force is applied suddenly.

If it's the force, then why does it bounce higher the harder I throw it against a solid surface, in lighter and small quantity or mass weight? I believe the mass weight and sudden stop is what made it explode. The excess weight cancelling out the compressibility of the substance thus rendering the elasticity to bounce back from the sudden shock, a mute point.
