I use a thin strip of newspaper or aluminum foil. The aluminum foil works a little better for me because it wil hold a shape a little better.

I haven't started on weapons or accessories yet, but I read an article that you can use electrical tape - fold in in half so that the adhesive side is folded over and sticking to each other. Then splice as many straps as you need with an exacto blade and ruler. I am going to try this out.

Try using tissue paper cut to thin strips.

The most useful material for whatever purpose has been the lead foil that covers a wine bottle neck. You can use it to make gun slings, straps, attachments for tools in your armour piece...you name it.

"Err...Darling, do we have some of that nice Bordeaux left? I would need some material for my gun slings!"

Just tried this out the other day on a Vietnam M-4 machine gun and worked really well. I cut and folded the Foil/paper gum wrapers. It might be a little stronger then foil and more flexible them paper. Worked really well.

That would be the stuff. It's sort of hard to find on most domestic wines, but if you can find Bella Sera brand, they use a good weight foil on their bottles. The wine is pretty good, too.

I have used masking tape very successfully. It takes paint vey well and still remains pliable. With a little white glue you can get it to take on almost any shape you could want. A straight edge and an exacto knife are all you need to get it started.

my favourite is the metal from paint tubes or toothpaste tubes. Its light enough to bend into shpe and it stays there. No need for glue to hold its shape and it takes paint. I save all this foil metal as its brilliant for so many other things as well!

I've always just cut strips of paper out. Use it for seatbelts on 48 scale aircraft and 25 scale autos as well as slings

I use the aluminum pie lids for my gunslings.

They are easy to cut. easy to bend they have the correct thickness. painting goes ok

plus the fact that you can buy them separate without the pie. Now if you are not so fond of pie this is a pro... if you are fond of pie... Then you better can buy it with the pie :-) :-)

My top 3 :

- lead foil from chmpagne bottles
- lead foil from bordeaux bottles (Médoc is best)
- lead foil from burgundy bottles.

no, seriously. No material beats the thin lead foil that is wrapped around '"classic'" wine bottles. Cut to fine strips with your x-acto. Easily glues with PA glue, folds easily, looks natural, holds shape. Now what other argument do :::hic::: you need to give :::hic::: this a try ?

I've used yellow electric tape, foil and plastic strips. But the best thing out there is a lead sheet cut into strips and the glued onto the weapon with Super Glue. They are flexible, they really hold their shape and they take paint well. I usually find sheets at model shows and the thinner the better.Just make sure you wash your hands afterward to avoid lead poisoning.

Lead foil is really good because it has a "memory" and can be molded to stay in whatever shape you need. If you, like me, are unable to cut a straight line you may have trouble with this. I like to use Christmas tree icycles for slings, helmet straps, and straps on bedrolls. They are the perfect width and need no trimming. The good part is you can get HUNDREDS of them for about 50 cents.

I use lead foil cut into very thin strips. If you have some good references on personal armaments eg rifles etc and get a hold of some PE buckles (loads of people make them) you can make some very convincing webbing. I find lead foil is best when using PE buckles as it is 'thin' enough to go through the buckle openings. I have tried stuff like wine foil covers and double folded masking tape but have found this is too thick to slot through some openings - especially if you have to double loop something. Also as mentioned lead foil has memory and will stay when you put it! Make sure it is primed before painting though.

I am trying flower tape. The tape they wrap around the stems of flowers. It is slightly sticky but not much. I just cut a thin strip off and use super glue. We shall see.

You could use masking tapes and roll them out into fine slings and paint them black or whatever color you wanted to. Lonewolf has done one but we haven't got any pics because my webcam doesn't do good on micro pics.
