The orders have been issued. Deploy your "Big Guns".

Just a reminder about the upcoming 2006 Alberta AFV Modeller Show in Calgary, Alberta on September 16, 2006.

Yours truly will be the good lookin' MC for the show.

The show is being held at the Military Museums in Calgary. The museum is comprised of the Regimental museums of the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians), Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, The King's Own Calgary Regiment, and the Calgary Highlanders. There are displays, artifacts, uniforms, and weapons ranging from each Regiments origins and on to deployments in WWI, WWII, Korea, Cyprus, Croatia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Kosovo, and present deployments to Afghanistan.

There is currently a special gallery exhibit running called:
Making Peace and Saving Lives: Canada's Peacekeepers and Landmines

The entry fee to the show includes full admission to the museum.
The museum has 1:1 AFV dioramas and numerous static displays. A tank park outside includes an ex-East German T-72M1, M113, Lynx C&R, Ferret Mk.1, Churchill Crocodile, M4A2E8 Sherman, Centurion Mk.5, and a Universal Carrier.

The show will have lots of great entries from all over Western Canada. It includes AFV models, dioramas, and figures from 1900-the present day.

There will also be some great hands on demos including:
-Soldering photo-etched parts - presented by Tom Cockle
-Replicating scale non-skid surfaces - presented by Jim Carswell
-Figure painting using oils, acrylics and enamels - presented by Tom Syme
-Mold making (one and two part molds) and resin casting - presented by Neil McLeish and Richard Wise

This year's theme will be "Big Guns". This theme will include indirect fire weapons dating from 1900-present. The rockets, artillery, mortars, or missiles can be vehicle mounted, self propelled, ground mounted, horse drawn, rail mounted, or towed.

Hope to see you at the show and at the museum, here's the link to the show site:

Thanks to Dan Hay and his magical typing fingers of fury he has posted an update on the AAFVMS site with the results of the show.

The judging was based on the AMPS system for judging criteria...each model was judged by three judges with a total possible score out of 60. Each diorama was judged by three judges with a total possible score out of 120.

It was a fun show, but folks really missed out on a great demo by Jim Carswell demonstrating on how to reproduce anti-slip surfaces...I am sorry that they fired up the M113 outside just as your demo started.

Photos of the entries will be posted soon on the AAFVMS site.

Dan, I am very impressed to see you have already updated the site for the 2007 show.

The Special Theme for 2007 is "Wheeled Warriors"....All military wheeled vehicles or dioramas that involve a military wheeled vehicle will qualify for the themed award.
