All,

After too many moons prevaricating, I've finally moved to a new house and now have a peachy modelling room set up.

Sat down a few days ago and started work on an old Tamiya Sdkfz 251 half track (believe it, I have a stash of pre-'state of the art' kits going back to the days before the '87 stock market crash, so I guess I'm firmly in old fart territiory here...) and have been fiddling with it some, not 'accurising' it or owt like that - just having fun and getting my modleling mojo back.

But I guess I haven't gt it back yet because I have Screwed Up Big Time...

Today I decided that the vinyl tracks that came with kit needed to be 'stretched' slightly - now, bear in mind that these tracks came from Mr Tamiya's garden shed some twenty years ago...

So I laid them out on a scrap of wood pinned them out to a decent stretch (just a couple of mm or so over what they should be) and hit them with hot water.

Never seen vinyl track shrivel and split like that before...

Anybody have a spare set of tracks for a Tamiya Sdkfz 251 they wouldn't mind passing this way?

PM me please - I have stuff for trade, twenty year old Tamiya stuff mainly...

PS Does AMPS still exist here in NZ..?

Arghhhhh - I know the feeling.

Was making up an old 1:48th Bandai Elefant that must have been purchased about the same time and the tracks wouldn't fit. Tighter than my wallet. I decided to heat them with water, tried warm water and thought it showed promise so went for broke and used the kettle. Well they shrunk down to about the same size as those on my 20mm Elefant but were too twisted and warped to be any use even as links to mount on the hull .............. so I'm looking for replacement tracks also.

Anyway I've a bit of old unmade Tamiya but not the 251 sorry, wish I hade something for you as I sympathise!

cheers

ACAV
Been there, done that which on my part is of no help.
Try cornering Mr Tamiya for a replacement set either local in Japan.
They produce more than one 251 version

Hi ACAV

AMPS is still very alive and kicking in New Zealand.

The Auckland chapter meets every month at the Birkenhead RSA on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm.

Good luck with hunting down some replacement tracks for your half track.

Regards

Sean

G'day all,

Thanks for the assistance.
I've just emailed trevor Bringans Ltd in the hope they can come through with the goods - been propping up their bottom line long enough after all

As to AMPS, thanks for the info!
I've checked out their website, but it didn't look like it had been updated for a while which is always a bad sign.
Good to know they're still extant - have to pluck up the courage to get on down now that I live on the Shore...

Thanks again one and all

G'day ACAV

Did you make it to the AMPS meeting last week?

I was in attendance not sure if you made it.

I know there was a new member present just was not sure if you were one and the same?

If so my humble apologies for not putting two and two together.

Regards

Sean

Sean,

Guilty as charged...

I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it was nice to meet a similar minded bunch of blokes and just chew the fat for a while.
I'll be along next meet, hopefully with something more concrete to view - still beavering away at the old dog 251...
