Lads,
Next Friday is the 40th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, and there are a few interesting docos on this week related to the Australian experience in Vietnam.
- tomorrow night on 60 minutes, Long Tan veterans Dave Sabban and Bob Buick return to the Long Tan battle site, and meet up with former officers of D445.
- 19th August, Channel 9 (Win), at 4:00 (3:30 in SA) is 'Eyes of the Tiger: Diary of a Dirty War'. This one is on the Australian Reconnaissance Platoon with 5RAR on their first tour in 66-67. I get the impression its a follow on from 'Crossfire' by Peter Haran and Robert Kearney.
-Also, there is oodles on Pay Tv, with a doco/movie/reenactment of Long Tan also on the 19th.
Happy viewing,
Aaron.

Great idea Dave. I saw a few snippets on the news tonight, and from the shorts it is going to be an impressive doco. Its going to be good to see some jungle greens on the screen after such a long time....
There are rumours that a Long Tan film is in production. Perhaps this is it? Nonetheless, im in the same boat - the old man has a new dvd burner and has been ripping stuff straight off the tv for me. I look forward to this one arriving....
What are the plans for the museum next week Dave? Anything special?
Cheers,
Aaron.

Nah mate don't think were gonna put on anything fancy this year, being the 40th anniversary it wouldve been nice, however with the big move coming up and alot of our displays have packed now, it would be a tad hard.
The 60 minutes one should be good to but yeah, gotta see if i can get a copy of the one thats gonna run on History Channel, from what the website and adverts show, its gonna have detailed accounts of every second of the battle complete with hollywood quality re-enactments, 3D Computerised maps, the lot, should be informative which is why i think it would be great to have running in the theatre of the new museum.
If your in Vic next year youll have to drop by and check us out.
Cheers mate

Thats okay Seb. You have to chuck a sickie from School this Friday and head to the War Memorial. There are talks, displays, marches, and no doubt a fly over....

Hey lads,
For any who are interested there is an online chat with a couple of veterans of Long Tan tonight. To quote the blurb from the site "On the Evening of Wednesday 16th August at 22:30AEST, after the screening of the Foxtel Long Tan documentary, you will have a chance to join Bob Buick and David Sabben in an exclusive webchat about their experiences in the Battle of Long Tan."
For details check out the following link
