Hi all

I need four of these for a project. Anyone have any in their spares boxes? Failing that could you recommend a kit that I could take some from?

Cheers

Look for 1/72 scale waist guns for US bombers like the B-17, B-25, etc. Normally aftermarket sets in resin or white metal are available from companies like Verlinden, Aires, and others that cater to aircraft.

Thanks Robin, why didn't I think of that?

This set from Aires would seem to fit the bill. I assume they come in pairs normally?

I don't want to throw a monky into the works but a quick question...

didn't the .50 calibers on aircraft and the .50 calibers on Allied equipment have different types of barrels.

i think the aircraft ones had the perferated air cooled barrels and the ground vehicles ones had 2 or 3 types with the changing handle on them near the base of the barrel so they could be changed when they were hot and a couple of types without the changing handle..

though I'm sure there were many aircraft types that found their way into ground equipment...

I'm after them for an MTB - all the reference pics I have show air-cooled perforated barrels, with slash-cut suppressors on them. Do the Aires ones have alternative barrels?

Thanks Delbert - I think those are the ones for me! Really should pay a bit more attention to the "wingy things" side of the site shouldn't I?

To answer your question on number of guns, I normally see them in packs of two or four. I guess it would depend on the bomber the set was geared for.

I've been buying the cheaper sets for a while when the .50 for my tank isn't good enough. I've bought them for 1/72 and 1/48 scale armor kits.

Hannants seemed to think that the Aires was a set of 4, so I've ordered that. Will wait and see how many actually turn up of course...
