I'm quite new to this whole thing and I would like to know how to make slings for rifles and smg's etc. I see somepeople put loops in at each end of the sling, as well as tabs and buckles etc - how do I do that! Thanks!

Hi Harry,

Do you want to make slings for German, British, American or Russian troops?

The type of sling would depend on that, but you can use lead foil, paper, masking tape etc.

A little more information will get a clearer answer for you.

Cheers

Al

PS cutting them straight and the right width is the problem!!! :-) :-) :-)

Thanks Al. I am mostly wanting to do them for US Airborne WW2, at first anyway! But German info would also be good... Cheers!

Hi Harry,

The Americans used leather slings, there is a PE set of buckles but I can't remember of hand who makes it, I'll have to do a search.

Same detail for German infantry, there is a good set of PE slings for them. If you do a search here on site for rifle slings it should throw up the previous posts as this subject comes up quite often.

Sorry I haven't got the info to hand right now but my main interest is British stuff.

I'll get back to you and quite possible someone else will pick up on your spot and add the info.

Cheers

AL

Edit: Question answered see below. The Dragon Premier US Rangers Set comes with slings as do the New German Gen 2 Figures.

I have used painted paper for slings and for buckles I have peeled this detail from styrene parts. As stated it depends on the nationality being built. The PE stuff is nice but I don not build enough to make it worth while.

If you don't mind spending the money PE is the way to go.
You should have a try at doing it yourself, lead, paper, wire. I've noticed sometimes at the smaller scales and after being painted you can't tell the difference. All you need is a good reference to show how it should look. Material is easy to come by. For lead talk to the local dentist. On some of the x-rays they still use a lead backing and they have to pay to have this recycled. Ask and they will probably give it to you. Just make sure you wash it first. Small wire for the buckel, Try it, it's fun when you can make something other people have to buy.

Good Luck,
Bob
