Hi All.
A moment of madness struck a few days ago. I decided to build myself a "Blast Pen" to display and also to photograph models in. Ive started doing the research and found some good photos and even the right dimensions, but as I was about 12 the last time I attempted something like this I thought Id make a practice one first before I get a bit more ambitous.
Thanks for the hints and tips Andy,even though Im still not convinced about the hairspray :-) but its seemed to have worked.

looks pretty good to me nigel, and it somehow makes that spitfire seem like its in a bigger scale than 1/72

What have you used for the "grass" ?

Yes Phil,,the infamous cowpat has come to life,,lol.

I coated the polyfilla with Klear first to stop it absorbing the paint,and then sprayed it dark earth.The grass is a bag of railway "meadow grass" which is attached with Copydex and water.Then Andys special trick of using hairspray to seal it in.Last thing was a dusting of every shade of brown and green in the paint box,and painting the edges black.
Not counting drying time for the polyfilla,the whole thing took me about 90 minutes.

Your right Andy,it really does bring the little Spit to life and its now got its very own shelf in the display cabinet.

Nige - I only just noticed this. Its a good basic base but you might want to make it smaller. Having a base that is larger thatn the item itself tends to swamp the piece. Especially something so small as a 1/72 spit. Try something that is abou the same length as the kit and a little bit less wide. it then tends to make the kit the focal point not the base.
