Hi all.
This will be my entry for the Suez Campaign over on Armorama.
Its the PM models Sea Fury in 1/72.
I started this quite while ago,and have had a lot of trouble motivating myself to get on with it. Although the fusalage fits together nicely the wings are a completely different story, and Ive gone through loads of filler to get it to this stage.(its starting to resemble a dodgy old Ford Cortina,,only the filler holding it together :-) ).
I scratchbuilt the exhaust pipes with semi circular plastic rod. Its going to be in a nmf hence the black primer. Still plenty of tidying up to do and a bit of rescribing, but at least now the primers on I can see what needs addressing more clearly.
Its going to be finished in Egyptian Air Force markings using a combination of sprayed markings with AM and homemade decals.
Hopefully I can keep the interest level up now its starting to look something like and get it finished soon.

Its certainly no Tamiya kit but its coming along quite nicely now.Ive got the base coat of Alclad on and over the next few days I'll be spraying some of the panels in different shades.
Hand painting the fusalage and wing stripes will be an interesting exercise in neat masking,and once thats done it should be finished pretty quickly. Im going for a battered looking finish,the sands of the Middle East wouldnt have been very kind on an NMF I think.
Should make for a nice comparison against the more pristine P47.
If all goes well I'll bring at along the Doncaster show.

thats a neat trick with those exhausts, and another set of "silver wings" for your collection. now it looks more like an aircraft than a battered cortina you'll maybe find (like i do) that you can pick up the motivation to get it finished

Time for an udate.
After a base coat of Alclad Ive started spraying some panels in different shades.A lot of masking for a 5 minute spray session but its looking quite nice I think. A couple more sessions of panel spraying and I will have to do the job Ive been dreading.
Ive got to mask and spray white bands with a thin green edge on the fusalage and wings.As if Im not sweating enough on a day like this
Anyway,,its going alright sofar so heres a photo while the goings still good

This is looking great
For your green and white stripes you might want to try this:
First spray the white band (fairley obvious ) but you can either spray it the full width, including the green stripe or just the width of the white. I would paint them the full width.
The trick for painting a thin line is as follows:
cut a piece of tape to the width of the stripe you want and, carefully, lay this down where your strip is to be. Cut 2 more, thin, pieces of tape and lay then alongside the first piece, on either side, then remove the first piece. Burnish down the 2 pices that are left and add further masking, leaving just the thin unmasked line and paint green. Easy peasy
The real problem is cutting a piece of tape thin enough, but that is simple too Tape 2 scalpel blades together and use a steel ruler on Tamiya tape. Make only one pass, otherwise you will balls it up.
I would suggest that,when painting the white, you leave it a tad shy of the full width. When you add the strip of tape it should over lap the edge and this way you will ensure that you don't have any white showing on the outside of the green If you spray the white ban to only it's correct width you stand the chance of leaving a gap between it and the green.
For positioning the first strip, for the green, use dividers to ensure that they are parallel Like I said, easy peasy
Nearly forgot, if you require the green stripe to be wider than the distence between the 2 blades simply add plasticard to suit.

Fresh eyes and another day might well make the difference.

They certainly did!,,the stripes are finally on.
Klear and decals next. Suppose Id better think about making a start on the undercarriage now
Great tip Mal! One thing that might make it a bit easier to see when lining the tape up would be to use a different colour to make it easier on the old eyes and brain cells.

I wouldnt know where to start painting serial numbers etc
Any idea what colour the wheels wells and inside of the undercarriage doors should be on a Fury. Metal or interior green?

I would go with metal, I think Hawker's actually used aluminium dope, so silver will be fine and should contrast, slightly, with your NMF. If they are already painted (NMF) Leave 'em and give 'em a wash

A bit more progress,,at least,,I think its progress.
I gave the panel lines about 4 washes of burnt umber and I think,,only think,Im starting to get the hang of doing them.This is one of the main reasons I didnt give my P47 a panel wash.
As this aircraft flew combat sorties in desert conditions I decided to try and give it a battered and dusty appearance.( Ive been to Egypt and everything there seemed battered and dusty), so I misted on a heavily thinned and very light coat of buff which seems to have dulled everything down to just about the look I was trying for.
