Hi all

I've just been down to our local aircraft museum (Doncaster Aeroventure) and bought some kits from an enormous kit collection that has been left to the museum by a chap who has unfortunately passed away. The majority of kits are aircraft but there is also quite a lot of armour and a few other bits and bobs. The idea is to sell all of the kits and with the money made buy an aircraft for the musem to have in this guys memory. The chap at the museum reckons, at a very rough estimate that there is around £20,000 worth of kits! Yes, you did read that correctly!

There is pretty much everything you could think of. To give you an idea, I picked up;

(All of these are Matchbox kits) 1/32 Dauntless, 1/32 Puma, 1/32 Bf109,
1/32 Sea Venom (one of three there!) 1/72 Heyford, 1/72 Halifax, 1/72 Stranraer, 1/72 Dornier Do G1, 1/72 Heinkel He 115, 1/72 Wellington, 1/72 Dornier Skyservant, 1/72 Hurricane IIc and 1/72 Hellcat. (I'm collecting Matchbox kits in case you're wondering!) All of these cost me £90 to give you an idea of prices.

They want to sell these models! If anyone is in the area and wants to pick up a bargain (and there are plenty!) then give them a call and organise a visit. Plus there is also the museum to have a look around while you're there.

Their telephone number is; 01302 761616 and the address is;

Aeroventure
Dakota way
Airborne Rd
Doncaster Leisure park
Doncaster
South Yorks DN4 7FB

I would certainly advise ringing first because I don't think they're open every day.

I went to the Aeroventure museum and I now have the full collection of Airfix 1/24 scale models, except the Harrier, 3 of which are original boxings. No I won't be keeping them wrapped up, I will build them To give you an idea of the scale of this collection I was able to take a few pics. Note the 1/16 Tiger which normally sells, apparently, for over £500. Harri you were right, gobsmacking.

Hm. We're going on holiday to Yorkshire this year, wonder if I can trick the missus into calling in? I have to say that if this is just one guy's stash, it proves (to me anyway) that my philosophy is right, make kits one at a time then buy the next one. The outlay on this lot must have been enormous (£20000 you say?), & there probably never was any hope of getting them all done.
