This will be my build thread for the W.W.1 thingy i seem to be building :-) . I thought i would post over here as its been a bit quite lately and more importunately when i cock-up i won't be ridiculed by the World only by the nation :-)
The Eduard 1/48, Albatros D.111, Weekend edition, which isn't going to be done in a weekend :-) .
So far i have built the engine, of which you will only see the top of when it's in the fuselage.
Rowan (Merlin) has written a wonderful feature on Easy Wood Grain Effects which i will put into practice with the fuselage.
Comments and criticism welcome and necessary, as i haven't a clue what I'm doing :-) .

Wow, nice one Andy but if you build this in a week end I may (may) eat my shorts. (I say "may" because they are currently waiting to be eaten, if Rowan ever finishes his Halifax )

Dropping a heavy object on your foot gives one a certain amount of experience but doesnt encourage doing it for a second time

Very true but there's no accounting for "daftness" If you fall off a horse, or bike, you will be encouraged to get right back in the saddle (unless you are Superman and have broken your neck of course).
I guess Andy is busy building the multi winged thingy, as he aint posted anymore pics.

the spool i have is marked dia 5.5,but what this measurment is in is'nt mentioned as a rough guide i use a .3 mil drill for the holes which seems to be big enough and the fishing line looks to be the thickness of a hair

OK, about time for an update .
The fuselage is 90% done, just a few bits to attach and the decals. Rowans wood grain is really easy to do, after a bit of practice. I am rather pleased with the results, and with an addition of an oil wash it should really come alive.
Next up is the wings and rigging .

Hi Andy.
Thats really coming together and the wood grain effect looks great,even before the oil wash.
Is it time for the rigging yet?
Looking forward to hearing how it goes and hopefully learning some more about rigging before I tackle the Camel.

Thanks Guys,
She is going to do the rigging :-) :-) .
Update, I have been working on this on and off all day, and I'm ready for the decaling.
I resprayed the tail section as i didn't like the colour as it wasn't bright enough.
All the parts are built and painted but on different parts of the desk :-) .
hopefully I'll start rigging on Friday.

The rigging is all that is left to do, so expect finished pics soon, or if it goes tits up, it will never be mentioned again :-) :-) .

I really enjoyed building this and am quite pleased with the end result. I will definitely attempt another at some point. The rigging was a lot easier then i thought it would be ( famous last words :-) )

how did you paint them? i was thinking it would'nt be too difficult to do them freehand, or is there a way to mask them?

TOP JOB Andy!!
That has really turned out nice.Is this the start of a change in direction?
All it needs now is an SE5 or a Camel to go with it
Talking of Camels,,,lol,,now the Spits done and the Sea Furys almost there,Ive got room on the bench to make a start on my first WW1 plane.
I doubt it'll come anywhere near to this though.
