So of you may remember this;

This is the Macralon armoured Land Rover I've spent so much time on. It is based on the Tamiya Land Rover Ambulance which looks like this (And no, I didn't build this one, I don't know who did) :

I'm trying to build this:

This is how it looked on the last post:

And this is how it looks now:

The only original parts are the chassis, bonnet and wings. Rest is scratch.

Figgies need some work and possibly a tweak or two to the Rover but it's getting there.

Hi Murdo,

That looks familiar. Nice job so far mate, well done on that one. Don't forget to straighten the barrels of the rifles they are a bit off centre at the moment.

This should look very good when you get it finished - thanks for posting the pictures. Look forward to seeing the finished article.

Cheers

All it needs is the large "confidential telephone" decals for the sides.

EDIT; Should there not be mesh all along the bottom as well?

After long sessions on-line --with Murdo --(0100hrs uk)-- it transpires that the "confidential #'s"were not on all l/r's-------the police carried them --- remember stencilling them on in '72-'73.......but seems at a later stage they were removed----were on some "pigs" and Saxons ......
Grills under police vehicles ---flaps under L/r--Pigs
Land rovers were designated --"PIGLETS"

Decals are on the list --I know 'cause he "cadged "some decal paper from me :-) :-) :-)

Looks great! One criticism though, the TUUAM (the box the antenna comes out of) is way too small.

On a related note, does anyone know of a 1/35 110 apart from the Historica AR110 which I can't find anywhere and where I can get a couple of the Eduard photo-etch sets for the Italeri 'Commando Car' and finally a source for vehicle markings for WWII Commnado units (30 Commando specifically, failing that any RM/Army Commando)?

J S ....do you have sizes for the TUUAM ??.....then this "error" can be corrected for future use ........there are guys who fancy doing this "Piglet" and if its "wrong"--"way too small".............then it can be corrected

I'm guestimating here but 30cm long, by 22cm wide and 26cm high - here's a pic of one on a WOLF 90.

and on it's own

Ah, the TUAAM. Tuning Unit Automatic Antenna Matching .

Hmm, It does look a bit small. It was done from memory and I thought it was about right but... Hey, it'll be better next time! One lives and hopefully learns.

So, slightly wider, longer and higher...

Thanks John.

Another thought...

From my admitidly limited time in the Province, I don't remember seeing TUUAMs on snatches. The TUUAM (hope I'm not teaching egg sucking here) tunes the antenna for the VRC 353 an insecure VHF vehicle radio. Even back in the late 80's we had secure VHF comms - so no need for 353's. The balkans and Iraq are/were a different matter - at least in 2004 (my last tour).

They were there though... Admittedly it wasn't "back in the late '80's" (this was much earlier) but... No "Confidential Helpline" number either...

The 353 was only insecure when there was no B** attached to it.

My apologies for the lack of antenna, we had a Scouser with us at the time.

Lovely build! I must be getting old though as I remember lightweights and 66 pattern jackets.

I have just come in from work and past three of these on the M4 and they all had the telephone numbers painted over but not very well cause you could still see them :-)
