If you're not afraid of working with really tiny parts, Model Kasten makes replacement tracks (MK-K16).

Hi Robert,

If you check out Accurate Armour there was a recent post that said they are going to release fairly soon, a set of tracks for the Universal Carrier. I read that the Kasten ones are incredably difficult to work with so it might be worth waiting.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers

I also read numerous comments on the model kasten tracks about them being overly difficult to work with. I bought a set for my kit anyway, and they weren't so difficult, only a little tedious. The trick in separating them from the sprue is to cut the sprue so that there's no tension or twist applied to the tiny track links while cutting. First cut the single connectors, then cut off the sprue around the track, then free the link by cutting the double connector on the other side. This way I broke only a few, and those where ruined because I worked hastily and cut too much. Styrene as material was also good as you could adjust the track section's after glueing.

Btw, are those resin tracks link & lenght or single link type?

Hi Eetu,

Don't kmow for sure. I believe the Resicaast ones have short lengths and individual bits, but that's just a guess. They come as part of their carrier conversion sets so to the best of my knowledge aren't available just on their own. You also get a new idler wheel with the Resicast kits.

Re The accurate Armour tracks I'm still waiting to see what they come out with.

I need 4 sets and I'm waiting to see what's the best option.

If the Kasten tracks are plastic I'd rather work with that than resin. Is there a considerable improvement with them as opposed to the plastic jobs Tamiya provide?

I'm hoping Robert's post might throw up some more information.

Cheers

Hi Robert,

Only other thing I can think of is to cross post this to the armour section, you might get more response there and a few more suggestions.

Hi Robert,

There shouldn't be a problem as it's really a question about what's best and what's available. You may find someone has a set they will pass on.

Sorry about the late answer.
Yes, the improvement is immense. Tamiya's drive sprockets have half the amount of teeth they should, and the tracks look nothing like the real thing. Instead they look like poor T-38 tracks or something.
Here's two pics of my carrier with Kasten tracks. Notice the new drive sprockets that come with model kasten tracks.

Hi Eetu,

Thanks for that, it's the first time I've seen them on a kit. That's a major improvement for sure. Now to find a UK supplier :-) :-) :-)

Nice looking carrier too.

Cheers

Al

Edit: Eetu would you still have the kit number? Hannants in the UK stock Kasten Sets but they all seem very expensive ranging between 18 24 pounds which is a lot, so I'll search around for a better price before I decide.

Thanks again.

I don't have the packing anymore but I checked product number from the web store where I bought them. It's MK-K16.

I checked modelpoint, and they seem to have a different number for them, however. modelpoint
They show this info for the tracks: Manufacturer: Modelkasten • Tracks
Scale: 1/35 • Mfr #: K-16 • SKU: MKS-K16

I hope this helps.

Hi Eetu,

Thanks for that. They are listed at $21 plus per set. As I need four sets it's unlikely I will go with them as they cost more than the kit.

Thanks for all the information anyway it will be most useful for the future.

Cheers
