Hi all, Ok, Help in this please. I ha a few silicon rubber molds, but! i don't have the medium to pour in to, i woul like resin but i only can get the polyester one, metal is very easy to find here, but i read about the danger of the toxic fumes, so i woul like to use the alumilite but i canīt find it here in Guatemala, and if i order in the net it would be to expensive, So what can i use for casting my figures, what experinces you have about this.

Thanks
Murdo

Hello mate,

I have polyester resin at the moment. So far I'm not all that impressed with it. But I've just started and I'm no resin expert.

Ok by the moment i am trying with a 1 part mold the one in the alumilite page calls split/ glove http://www.alumilite.com/howto.cfm?ID=7 but i`ll make a 2 parts mold, i want to reproduce figures: torsos, arms, rifles, etc. the whole figure in pieces, i'm planing to build a diormana and i need many figures in poses that is hard to find (and expensive) so i'll make my silicon ruber molds with the figures i have and modify the pieces i need. but i donīt kwon what to use for the casting, metal: easy to find, but very tricky to use; Resin: the polyester one i know that usually it change the size of the piece once itīs dry. So iīm not sure what to use for casting??. Thanks folks!

Nothing wrong with metal ---re-usable if not 100% ------have you thought of "car body filler "--can be a lot easier (cheaper )---lay in both sides of mold and squeeze --------may get a bit of flash but workable ----or ---the od fashioned way ---melt plastic scaps in liquid glue and pour in--takes a while to set
Resins can pricey --and some are nasty
Keep in touch
