First off welcome to the site, second before you get deluged by answers May I suggest you do a forum search on the topic. After reading the posts you'll probably have some very specific questions which will be easier toanswer.

First, apply a gloss coat with an airbrush and let dry.
Then, use a damp Q-tip to slide the decals in place.
After the decals are in their desired position, apply Walthers Solvaset (a product that makes the decal hug the surface, very good) and let dry. Then, spray another coat of gloss to seal and protect the decal. Before drybrushing, apply a dull coat and VOILA.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

I agree with everything posted so far.
I'd like to add more.
When you are using OOTB decals you should cut away as much of the clear excess as possible.
I get a BRAND NEW #11 exacto blade for EVERY Kit I do decals for.
I usually cut each decal from the overall sheet first. I try to get rid of as much paper as possible here.
I hold the decals down on a cutting board and have a metal straight edge. I carefully line the ruler up with the straight portions of the decal and cut through the film. I carefully cut the film out of all the little gaps and nooks and crannies between letters and numbers. For example the two little humps in the "m" in "Army" or the drop portion of the "U" in "USA". I get rid of AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Practice and you'll get the hand of it. I usually end up with 1/3 more individual decals than when I started. One VIN decal become two, etc.
Then I apply them as these other's have mentioned.

You'll also find some people use dry transfer and hand painted versions, both Great options. As you get better, give them a try.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!
