Thought i would show you a pic of my latest project and start a progress thread. This is a slight change of direction from my normal aircraft :-) .
Its Dragons 1/35 Panther A late type with an added cavalier zimmerit set, Eduard P.E and metal barrel.
This is for the Meow campaign and should take a while to complete as i will be building it in-between the World cup matches.
Andy (++)
P.S My Duel campaign build ( vacform, Ki-48 Lily) has been put on hold at the moment untill i can get hold of a lot of pictures of the aircraft.

Sacrilage!!................................................................
I, recently, nearly picked up a Tiger. Note that I said nearly, looks like I've moved over to WW I but moving to armour is a bit off
Looking forward to seeing your progress

LOL, I need a target for all these planes i have :-) .
Mal nearly building armor, did you forget to take your pills :-) . You could always try Tamiya's 1/48 range of vechiles. that could lead to some interesting dio's.
Right back to the workbench and scratching my head, as i can't seem to find the wings :-) .

Andy - Looking forward to your progress on this. A change of pace is always good. Variety keeps us improving.
Mal - It will happen. I will eventually have you painting figures eventually

Ross,
That won't be hard, I used to paint figures I only finished a few and was developing my technique. When I changed from armour to aircraft I didn't feel the need for figures. I felt that armour needed figures, but not so with aircarft, I'm not sure why. I have thought for a long time that I would like to get back into figure painting and I will give it a go. I have Hasegawa's 1/32 Ju 87G-2 which includes a figure of Rudel, so I will be painting that

Mmmmm that's a good excuse for building armour
and I have thought about the 1/48 series, but they would have to be without excessories!

Its amazing how much you can get done in-between the Grand Prix and football matches.
The turret is nearly built. I have to add the seven periscopes to the cupola, which will be done after it is painted.
The zimmerit is really thin, but so easy to put on. The P.E is pretty straight forward, but i did manage to lose a piece which is the size of a comma :-) .
I am building this backwards :-) :-) .

Aren't you supposed to start with the cockpit first :-)
Looking good and that zimmerit is quite impressive. I get the PE but is the aluminium barrel really neccesary? I'd like to build at least 1 piece of armour, just to enter the Armour MOM

Mal - Metal barrels are the way to go. The problem with the kit supplied plastic barrels are they come in two halves and they don't always fit well and needsanding which can damage them. So metal replacements are the way to go

Hi Mal,
Ross is spot on with his explanation.
In my case, a definite yes, otherwise i end up with a square barrel trying to sand the seam out :-) .
I first used a metal barrel for a Jagdpanther i built for the Ardennes campaign, and was so impressed with the end result, that i think it is a worthwhile addition to the kit.

Hi Nige,
No i haven't wimped out, i just haven't got there yet.
I have just counted, there are 204 links in the track department. Do you think if anyone would notice if i swapped them for rubber bands :-) .
Update soon, well after the England match.

Well i didn't say which one :-) .
After 2 weeks of doing nothing, i have finally done the hull.
I still have to put the tool racks on, which are a major job as every part has to be sanded to take the P.E straps.
Next up will be the lower hull, then priming.

Once all the spare track links go on it will be quite cluttered :-) .
The Panther is my favorite W.W.2 tank, it just looks so sexy :-) .

A quick update before the Panther goes into the spray booth.
Everything is attached apart from the road wheels, which will get painted separately.
The tool racks were the hardest part so far, as every tool had to have its original plastic mounts removed, before adding the P.E parts :-) .
Once it is in primer, the camo will be applied in one session. The wheels will then be attached. Then its the tracks :-) , which i know will be the hardest, most boring part of the build :-) .

Great looking Panther Andy the AA mg mount looks great in PE
Thats what I liked about the DML Vorpanzer , they supplied 2 sets of tools on with molded on clamps and one without to use with the PE clamps

Now that is a good idea, definitely the way forward. DML seem to be pioneering these little touches.

Andy, I do lioke the look of this and, believe it or not, I'm tempted to get one after seeing your build so far. The PE really adds to the detail and that MG mount looks awsome (how come you aint bent it yet? :-) ) as do the tool racks. Many, many years ago I built a Tamiya Panther but failed on the painting. (About my first try at air brushing and I tried to mask the camo using maskol, would you believe. Of course I couldn't get it off so the Panther never got finished. I still have the road wheels, because they have good bolt detail ) So seeing this takes me way back and I hear a Panther calling...............ooooer

Thanks Mal, i'm rather pleased with the result so far. I haven't managed to bend it yet as the cupola is removable at the moment LOL.
I'm shocked, Mal thinking of building Armour :-) .
You should definitely consider getting a Panther to build ( as it is a seriously sexy tank ).
This Dragon kit is a lovely model to build, everything fits well. I have built the Tamiya Jagdpanther and that's fits together just as well. You can get them off E/bay pretty cheap.
You can also really go to town with the weathering, where with aircraft you have to be a little more restrained.
Go on come to the muddy side :-) .

Finished. Panther A late type, 12th Panzer Regiment, La Villeneuve, Normandy, 1944.
Painted in Tamiya acrylics, W+N oil washes, MIG powders for the weathering.
I have really enjoyed building this Panther, so much so that i think i will order another one .
You can't have too many Panthers :-) :-) .
Thankyou all for following and commenting on this thread.

Thanks Mal.
I will be adding crew members at some point. I am trying to find the right ones that will fit in the dio i have in mind for it.
I will be adding it to the armor MOM for July, so all those armor boys can see that we aircraft builders can build targets as well :-) .

Nice one Andy!!
It didnt take you long to knock that together did it?
Looks fabulous mate, and I really like how the washes have turned out.
Did they make any in NMF? :-)
Remind me to show an interest in the Armour MOM this month!
One question I think needs asking here,,,
Are you an Armour modeller who saw the light..or an aircraft modeller who has moved to the dark side,as Mal seems to be considering?
Mal,,in view of your recent interest in WW1,,how about a tank from that era from you?,,,no zimmeritt
Back to the jets now Andy?
