Ive noticed most of us have a rank and some of us dont. I tried to find anything on here that explains what the ranking is all about and how its given/earned? Just curious. I know its no big deal, just wanted to know how it works.

There is a forum help/rank info link a couple of inches above the reply button in your post. Ranks are optional and are gained by the number of posts. Individual members can turn on/off the rank and can choose which types of ranks they want to display.
Some posts in the off topic areas such as Junk Drawer, Buy/Sell/Trade, Introductions and other forums do not increase your ranking. This is due to new members who try to "fluff" up their rank by posting one or two word posts in mulitple off topic forums.
You'd be surprised at the number of new members who will reply to dozens of posts with a cut & pasted "Hi, welcome to the site" in the introduction forum.

Actually I'm not sure it's even working properly. According to my post count, it's 768 and the rank didn't roll over from Major to LTC.
