I thought this was a good movie, but it didn't really show the hell of the Hurtgen Woods fighting

I did like the movie. Gritty, the gear was good, everyone was as dirty as they should have been.

But I don't know enough about the Hurtgen Forest battle itself. Can anyone recommend a good book about it?

Hmm, Father's Day coming up...

Wasn't Father's Day last week?

Anyway, Max Hastings's 'Armageddon' has a good chapter on the Hurtgen fighting.

Hi Charles Whiting wrote a whole book about the fighting in the Hurtgen Forest as a part of his series on the Siegfried Line campaign!

Whiting's book is one of the best I've read about the battle.
'Against the Panzers" by Vannoy and Karamales also has a good chapter devoted to the battle.
