I have a straight resin strap for a 120MM M-1 Garand. I will be bending it Friday or this weekend to fit the gun. What is the best method to use, hot water? A hair dryer? Some other method?

Thanks for the help,

Nate

You have just asked a question men have been asking for many many years. I have heard of others having success with boiling water and clothes pins, but have never been successful myself. Replace it with lead foil.

I've had success with both methods...boil the water and take it off the heat before you put the resin piece in....if you choose this way.

Cut off the resin strap, but leave on the metal hinges that attach it to the rifle.
Cut a lead strap from a piece of lead wrapping you remove from a wine or Champagne bottle (if you don't have that in the house, this is a perfect alibi to buy one ! ).
The lead glues easily to resin with CA glue.
Paint the lead with a primer before you paint it in leather tones.
The advantage of the lead is that you can really let it "fall" like a real leather strap. It will look a lot more convincing than tampering with boiling water.

This is how I would do it. Please listen to other modelers' advice, too !

I personally have had best results/luck with the hauirdryer method. either one you use be very care full. things go from being mallible to a gloppy mess quickly.
