I live far away from any hobby shops and can not find the airbrush medium ACRYL on an site. I believe that Acryl is made by Testors.

Is there another medium that I can airbrush to thin Tamiya, Model Master, and other arylics other than Acryl?

Do you know of any vendor that would carry ARCRL or its subsitutite ove internet? I tried alchol in the airbrush and it just wont work. I have yet to try acrylic extender that can be bought at just about any hobby store but I would prefer a minature modelers advice before I stumble around with purchasing other mediums.

You can thin acrylic paints with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, water, windex, etc. You just have to get the mix right.

I believe the Testors Acryl is simply alcohol in a Testors bottle.

Roger,

Acryl is a complete line of acrylic paint made by Testor's. As part of that line, they make both a thinner and an airbrush cleaner. To be on the safe side, I've only used their thinner for airbrushing. With any other acrylic paint, I use Windex for thinning and cleaning. This works with Tamiya and Vallejo.

You might want to try a test using Windex. I know Acryl thinner is not easy to find.

I tried thinning the MM brand of acryl paints with Tamiya thinner. It worked but not so well as the paint liked to clump up.

The Tamiya thinner smells just like rubbing alcohol but the MM version doesn't have a smell at all. Not sure what its exactly composed of.

Hmmm I have never tried the windex trick. Sounds very economical.

For Tamiya I've always used rubbing alcohol and it works great. Dries fast.

For MM I've always used their thinner as I've had little luck with alcohol. As one of the posters mentioned it has almost no smell so I'm not sure what's in it.

I've heard some guys using windex, but that frightens me as I use that to remove dried acrylic paint

Hello Roger,
Rubbing alcohol is your best bet, next to the original thinner.
Of course testing it with the different paints will avoid any
surprises. I have used it successfully with Tamiya and
Mr. Color without any problems.

Now about Windex and windshield wiper fluid...yes some
of the guys use these products, they are supposed to work
because of the water/alcohol content but what scares me is
the fact that both these products contain ammonia and
according to some, acrylics and ammonia is not a good mix.

If you feel experimental give it a try....it's cheap! and of course
TRY IT ON SOME SCRAP PIECE FIRST !

Have a nice day and happy modelling,
