Gday all
Having a bit of a problem with my PC...
Symptoms are~
1/
No sound coming from desk top speakers (bought new ones but same problem, so I figure an internal prob?)
I have been through the Windows XP Home trouble shooting guide, to no avail. It states that everything is hooked up and functioning and dandy, nothing turned down or muted... Any help for me here?

2/
My Lexmark all in one printer (X1140) was not printing colour. ie. it would only print the black on any colour print...
I bought a new colour cartridge as the old one appeared blocked/clogged and was kind of old, but the same thing happened where the on-screen printing set-up would recognise a newly installed cartridge and that it was FULL and ready to go... When printing a test alignment page it would only print the black as before...
I don't know how these are related, but I fried something on my motherboard (a GT 865PE FSB800 DualDDR400 AGP8X SATA, for those in the know) a few weeks back. There was a matchhead sized scorch mark on some square black intel chip thingy, so I had the motherboard replaced and all was running smoothly, but then both of these symptoms happened simultaneously after the new one was up and running...
I really hope someone can help me as I'm not savvy with these things, and there have been sooo many times I've wanted sound, and also to pirint a colour page since!
It's driving me nuts!!
Cheers for any assistance
Brad

not a real PC genius or any thing but try
1. reload printer drivers (probaly on a disk that came with your printer)
2. Do you get the little dings from the computer without the speakers hooked up?Try this by unpugging the speaker and click on the little speaker icon in the bottom right and slide it all the way up- did you get the sound from the PC? If so double click the icon and a volume control box should appear -click options -properties- select playback and check the boxes to see if you have the devices selected- note your mixer device will be in the top box - select the drop down menu and see if more than one is there there could have been a change when your motherboard was replaced! I hate to mention it but make sure the speakers are plugged into the speaker port the mic port is the same and usually right next to the speakers! good luck.

Have you checked for spyware? Run a couple of spyware programs - spybot, adware are two decent ones. Clean up from that first.

When was the last time you 'popped the top' and dusted it out? It could be some dust in there causing problems.

If the speakers are plugged into a separate card you may want to pull it out and re-seat it.

Thanks for the help here...
John~ no little dings... Nothing! I reloaded the drivers also, and this changed nothing.
Roderick~ The speakers are in the correct jack port. And as for the soundcard, I wouldn't know if it's onboard or not...
Scott~ Ran the programs and there was nothing detected... And yes, blew the dust mites outta the printer too!
I get a loud crackle out of the speakers when I touch the rim of the jackport after removing the jack and reinserting...???
The jacksensing program I have states that the 'green' jack is recognised as stereo line-in and is connected and working...
Have also priced a new Lexmark 3 in 1... Priced from $64, so also may be a viable option!

Er, the stereo line-in is an input jack, that is the wrong thing, you want a line out jack.......

The speakers come with a green jack plug, which corresponds with it's connected green port... This is stated in the relevant program as stereo line in, but I did change it to line out, but still nothing! AAAAAAAAAARGH!
