I have been trying to twist MIG's (Miguel Jimenez) arm for a while now to come to South Africa.

Well I got a call from Tappie (Bomberman) a short while ago, in which he told me that as debuty chairman of IPMS S.A. he wants MIG to come out for the 2007 nationals at Emerald casino in S.A.

Well this was music to my ears!

I have been working on MIG via phonecalls and E-mails, anyhow Yesterday I got an E-mail from him confirming that he will be comming out to South Africa !!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

He will be doing demonstrations, workshops, presentations and will proberly be a judge at the event. :-) :-) :-) :-) .

He is very good at this and is much sought of around the world because he is so good at this. (not to mention that he is rated as one of the worlds top 5 modellers!)

He loves people and enjoys meeting new people all the time, he is also very curious about South Africa and realy wants to check it out!

I am trying hard to orginise some trips to see some good wildlife (the usual, Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino etc..etc..)

He might also bring his wife out, should the funds be availible. She helps him with demos and being a fine art graduate herself, she's no slouch at painting and wheathering either (damn good looking too!).

We need to raise funds though to pay for his trip, so please bear that in mind.

I can promise you that any of you that attend any of his classes, presentations, etc will NOT be dissapointed and will definatley learn more than just a few great new techniques from him.

I will keep you all posted further, o.k. I know it is still a far way away - but any new developments will be posted - especially that regarding fund raising for his trip.

Any comments from you guys as to ideas for this would be most welcome!

Well this news certainly made my day!!!

Cheers

Gaugrun

Lets start a fund.

Cut down on the beers and the smokes. Take the cash for every second beer you would have drunk and put it in the kitty.

Seriously though this is great news. As I told you before Grau I would dearly love to meet the man.

I still owe you a ring sorry about that, been busy.

We need to raise funds

Guys,

Speaking of funds... from what I hear clubs are having a really hard time at collecting subs. Clubs need subs to help pay for these sorts of things like IPMS SA Nats, and getting celebrity judges like Miguel out to SA.

I realise this may sound OT, but my point is simply that we all pay our subs (and get our mates to pay theirs) we the modellers don't have to carry the entire cost. IPMS SA can then contribute.
Also, and perhaps this comment belongs in the Nats 2006 thread, then we won't have a repeat of club members having to pay out their own packets at the 11th hour for Nats. If none of you know what I'm talking about, just ask - I'll go into more detail about this in the "Nats 2006" thread (so as not to hijack this great thread) if there is interest...

Come on guys, pay your subs.... I don't know about you, but what I pay for annual subs to IPMS Cape is not even close to the cost of what I spend on a single set of DML figs...

Hi Matthew,

We haven't heard anything further about this for a while. Is Miguel still coming?

Also, could I please ask either yourself, or someone from the host IPMS club to contact the other regional clubs about Mig coming out. I know for certain that until tonight, when Roland Stanbridge mentioned in passing to another (senior) member, that the club doesn't know about Mig's visit...

Hi guys,

I have just returned from Spain, having spent some time with Mig at his factory in Pamplona and then we (Mig, Adam Wilder & myself) drove down to Torrent in the south of Spain to attend the annual AMT/Torrent modelling show (what many including myself believe to be the world's premiar modelling show, better than Euromilitaire!) the standards where mind-blowing in every way. For those who are interested I have posted some of the pics on Mig's site at: www.migproductions.com (under forums - general forums - Torrent). You can also read all about my antics and Zulu boy dancing.

More importantly I have to inform you that for many reasons Mig will not be visiting us later this year. He is very keen to come still, however this will perhaps only take place in a few years time (there are a couple of reasons for that too).

Anyhow, don't or or even too much. When the timing is right he will be here!!

Cheers,
Matthew
