Thanks.

first off welcome to our zany little group. second the Xuron cutters work quite well. Instead of buying name brand look for ones in regular craft stores . Mine goes by the Xcelite. I bought it at home depot in a set with a needle nose plier for 11.00.

I have both, and use the Micro-mark cutters like a second right hand! They are great. The other cutters are good for other things, but for trimming parts off the sprue you cannot beat them. One thing to remember is that they are made for plastic, not metal!! I have had mine for about 2 years and don't know what I did without it.

Greetings,
I use the flush cut nippers that are available from Radio Shack. They're good quality, spring opening, have rubber or now plastic handle covers and only cost $5.00(US). As long as you don't cut anything harder than plastic, they last a long time. And at that price, they're cheap to replace.
Hope this helps,

That really helps a lot Craig! Thanks!

Let's see now:
Tools from electronics shops and women's manicure sets.
Floor wax for gloss coats.
Chains and beads from craft stores.
Spare parts from the kitchen.
Thread from pantyhose.
Etc.

And they call us boring. Weird perhaps but boring no #:-)

I purchased a pair of small hand tools from Wal-Mart just before Christmas for $5.50. They came packaged together as a "set". The two items were:

1. A small pair of wire cutters that work great for cutting parts off of the sprue.
2. A very small pair of fine/needle nose pliers. These work great for bending small photo-etch.

I rarely buy tools from hobby stores. I buy from Micro-Mark, Wal-Mart or Hardware stores. Hobby Shops are just to expensive.

Take Xacto #11 blades that fit in your standard hobby knife for example. A retail store sells 5 or 10 blades for 4 or 5 dollars. You can buy a box of 100 blades from Micro-Mark for around $10.00.

It definitely pays to shop for tools rather than "impulse" buy. It isn't as much fun though.

I have three Xuron cutters. One for plastic, one for PE, and one for resin. They've done me good for a number of years now.

Thanks,

On the contrary .... you can cut metal, copper , & brass materials & various gauged wire but use the Xuron #2175 Crafters Shear / #2175B Track Cutter / #2193 Hard Wire & Cable Cutter. They are specifically made for cutting metal's. The #440 High Precision Scissor is great for photo-etch ( PE ) accessories and thin sheet metal. I have other brands of cutting pliers, but it's the XURON that are alway's in my hand. They are quality made tool's and worth their price.......... MODEL EXPO carries 9 of the 16 different pliers that Xuron make.

XURON #2175 CRAFTERS SHEARS - ( $10.39 )

XURON #2193 HARD WIRE AND CABLE CUTTER - ( $12.79 )

XURON #440 HIGH PRECISION SCISSOR - ( $12.79 )
