need to vent some ...
It was a long holiday for last 3 days...so i decided to do my KV-1 with the Lion Roar PE set which arrived last wednesday.....
Well, it's has been more than 4 years since my last experience with AFV PE set..and i feel excited to begin the project...so i begin
after working 2 days with the PE set, i was so frustated with them...especially the instruction sheet. Some part didnt have the pre-etched line to fold...
i didnt have any fold tools but using my own method..this method normally work in my previous PE job... but not in this case.... the PE was harder even after annealling the part, still hard to bend...
the instruction didnt say which area the part should be place, well at least for some of the parts...
and i can also said that the PE didnt actually replace the parts that are needed to be details... some part are redundant ... this PE set is meant for the trumpeter kit .. the trumpeter kit is good however and only need a few minor 'enhancement'...
but the PE simply replace the parts that didnt to be replaced...
with the HOT weather last night, i'm sweating and curshing the PE set...
i got to sleep with anger and tired!!!!
sorry folks...dont know where to vent it...
i'm cool now

i haven't worked with PE yet but I can tell you had a bear of a time. it's hard when you take so much time and effort into a step and then find that it's been a waste. chin up

You echo my thoughts about PE in general:Duplication of existing, well done parts, difficulty of using to the point of joyless effort, vague instructions, etc. I will add $ cost to that. A lot of sets cost significantly more than the kit it's supposed to improve.Tools designed specifically to enable easier working of PE are not cheap either.Yes,there are some benefits such as mesh screening that PE application fits nicely. After a lot of thinking and evaluation of options, I choose to scratch out the finer details that are needed on the older kits and, like you, find the newer kits don't need the auxillary frets of brass at all.Successfull scratching is a lot more satisfying to me also-a good problem solving skill to acquire and use in other facets of your life
It's all supposed to be about fun and learning, sharing.
Good luck with it. You might surprise your self and turn out liking it later on! :-)
cheers!

the construction are completed now... i decided NOT to use any more parts that i think didnt required replacement...
I agree with Rick that most latest kit didnt need too much replacement or details as they are in their own best!!
So i learn something that 'i dont need those crappy PE for the latest kit......." I only use about 40% of the PE.
In other word, i have just wasted my money for this set.

i always try to avoid those teeny-weeny PE parts if possible, and i go for AM parts only if they're not included in the kit such as engines, interiors etc.

Sorry to hear about the mess my friend. I'm with Jimbo on this as since I have 2 left hands or close to it I never have any luck with fiddly-diddly small parts. For the same reason I stay off soccer as well as I have 2 left feet as well.
Looks like you've hit a bad patch on the modelling graph. The usual SOP for these modelling lows as you know is to sit back, take a break and hang out with the kids and then only take another swing at it.
As for wasting money I wouldn't think too much about it. Anyone who is not a modeller looking at all our stashes alone with or without PE would already think we are wasting money.
Hang in there.

mojimbo and beachbum,
the reason i go for PE is just to have a kick again with the 'nasty' little stuff and i think i still can work with PE while my sight is still good...
and after several years of non-PE kits, i just thought this set will do justice to the kit..
guess i'm wrong again...

Oi Mr Tang! This, IMHO would make you twice the footballer...
:-) You'll find left footers can use their 'other' foot much better than right footers...
