It is actually called Future here. I bought a bottle from Hyperama about two years back (shows you how long the stuff lasts). Otherwise I believe Johnson's Kleer is similar (although personally I've never noticed this on the shelves or used it). Maybe someone else can correct me / provide other alternatives.

Cheers

Future and Klear are one in the same. They are both made by Johnson's. It's known as Future stateside, and Klear across the pond in the UK.

I'll try remember to check out the local supermarkets to see what they sell...

Hallo Henk,

Johnson's Future and Johnson's Klear is the same product and available in the USA and the UK under those names. It is a clear acrylic liquid and produces brilliant finishes, even works as a decal setting solution and an acrylic gloss "varnish".

Future ( SA ) is similar and nowadays marketed under the Mr. Muscle range of products as Mr. Muscle Shine or something to that effect.

The main difference is that the local product is mixed with ammonia and the original substance is not mixed with ammonia. The local product works but not as well as the overseas product. The original "Future" can only be removed with ammonia, while the SA version already has ammonia added to aid removal of the previous coat on floors. The impact on the use of the local "Future" lies in the fact that unless your paint is really dry, especially whites, the local future tend to have a yellowing effect on the long run.

I use both with similar success even though I prefer the original overseas product.

Tappie

What about Johnsons One Step? That would work as well?

It appears the key is to find a floor cleaner without Ammonia, and a similar chemical composition to Future/Klear.

I haven't tried it yet, but if it is acrylic based it should work.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your replies.Got some usefull information.Just one last question though.Would the ammonia in the product harm the clear plastics or any other plastics for that matter.

Thanx again in advance

The ammonia doesn't harm the clear or other plastic parts, but it does tend to have a yellowish tinge. I used it for a long time without any detrimental effects on the plastic.

Hi Henk,

I suppose the only advice left is try this on scrap first afterall, you don't want to ruin a perfectly good model

BTW, I found this thread over on the Ozzie community forum : future

Seems like they have the same problem we do - and I'm not talking a poor Super 14 performance :-)
One of the guys mentions using Pledge One-Step, or something like that...

Hi Henk,

I may be the only one but i used Future both the old and new and i have found them to be difficult to work with and not very durable. On reasonably smooth surfaces there is a tendency to "bubble" or form droplets and that happens even with very fine misting through an airbrush. I got better results painting it on. But.... I had painted an aircraft some two or three years back and i broke the prop off. I then had to handle the plane to repair the damage and i noticed that along the fusalage where i had to hold the plane quite a bit, the weathering started to rub off which was under the Future. I have found that this happens to all my models finished with Future. Maybe the overseas product is more durable but i think this stuff is overated. Since i've gone back to Acrylic and enamel based clear coats - everything is back on track. My opinion.

From Matt Swan’s “THE COMPLETE FUTURE”;

“In South Africa look for "Mr. Muscle" in a pink plastic bottle with the "Future" logo on the bottom of the label or Johnsons "One Step" which is chemically identical to "Future".”
