Can anyone identify this medal? It was given to a guy at the end of Korea. He was a warrant officer/helo pilot and it was given to his squadron but that is all he remembers about it. What I know is that it is about 2.5" across and isn't an individual medal because there is no others for wearing on a uniform, other than that I can't find anything about it. There also is no mention of it in his DD214.

It does indeed. The only problem is that the whole coin thing originated with 1 Bn. 10th Special Forces Group, and Special Forces only came into being in 1952. It really didn't catch on with the rest of the Army until the 1980's.
Actually, it looks like the sort of medallions you can now purchase at shops outside many PX's in places like Ft. Bragg. Interestingly enough, usually owned by people of Korean descent.

It kinda looks like the medal that is worn on the uniform pockets of the military personel who work at the White House.
