problems with images in posts

lately, say last 2 months or so, I am getting ever more red x-es in posts where others can clearly see images.

Even avatars/ flags/ ranks no longer show up.

The funny part: it isn't in all posts. Some still show up as intended.

What can be done ?

Is it really random? I use to have this issue on a work ISP but went home and no problems. I think it may have something to do with the ISP timing out on the request so as to avoid long load times for lots of images. But that is purely guesswork.

I am not checking every particularity of every post, but sofar, posts with lots of pics suffer more from this; especially in the diorama section.

Suppose the ISP timeout is the case ( got ADSL recently ), what can be done about it ?
