Some people have asked me about my photo set up. Here is a picture. I use 3 lamps with 200W bulbs a blue background, and 4 white foam core boards to bounce light. I never shine the light directly on the subject.

I hope this helps!

John,
Thanks for the insight to your photo setup. Just goes to show you how magnificent pics can be realized with a very modest arrangement. I have basically the same situation, but instead using a photocube and three 100w lamps.
BTW, what kind of camera are you currently using?
Thanks again,
Mike

Nice one Sticky!
The very basis of how to show another their work on this site is by posting photos, so to do so in as clear and accurate way as possible, would make sense, right? So often it has been hard to appraise ones efforts due to blurry dark images etc. I think all could learn from this!
Cheers

Does the white box really help in the result of the photo?- What does it help- Resolution/Brightness?

Mike for the web I use a Coolpix 5000. For Print I use a D70 with a 105mm macro lens.
Johnny the white box allows almost shadowless pics, and no hot spots as I use the white box to both bounce light on the subject and to difuse light. Similarly to a cloudy day really.

John, thanks fopr sharing your "studio." It shows how manipualting light produces very sharp images without the harsh shadows produced by natural sunlight. And for minimal expense.

POD,
you can use white card, but I use the foam so it supports its own weight.

Thanks so much for sharing this. Ive had so much trouble in getting the lighting right when photographing. I always end up with too much glare on my models only because of shining it directly at the model. This looks like it will solve that problem. One question though, you said you use 200W bulbs, are they natural light ? soft white? white kind? Thanks, Tim

Frosted 200W bulbs. I adjust the white balance with the camera. I use 200's so I don't have to have super slow shutter speeds.

Thanks John, Although I don't usually have to wait too long for a cloudy day around here it usually comes complete with wind
I'm definitely going to try your set up.
