Today I passed my category C + E (articulated truck/ semi ) driving test so I'm soon to be let loose on an unsuspecting public with a rather large truck.

Congrats Peter. My Yank Dad drove trucks for twenty years, both before and after WWII. Even he thought twice about trying to drive in the UK though. Those roads of yours are far too narrow for our big American shoulders.

Congratulations Peter, it's good to see somebody joining our ranks, despite the long hours, low pay and general derision from the general public... Don't forget to check in your social live at the door.. .
Seriously though, what kind of work are you going for? Trunking, agengy or tramping?
Cheers
Henk

I think its the other drivers that you need to look out for. The last time I was there, everyone, and I mean everyone, was driving on the wrong side of the road... :-) :-)

Congratulations Peter.
Just one question. Why do you say especially UK members? You aren’t plaining on crossing the water in that truck now are you? :-)
Kinda reminds me of a C.W. McCall song now that I think of it.
Good luck with you new job.

"it was a dark of the moon On the 6th of June And a Kenworth pullin logs Cabover Pete with a reefer on and a Jimmy haulin hogs We were headin for Bear on I-1-0 about a mile out of shaky town I says Pigpen this here;s the Rubberduck and I'm about to put the hammer down" :-) :-)

Dang you Chad now I’ll be singing all night. :-)
And you missed the opening of it. You know you cant leave out the CB talk.
"Breaker 1-9 this here's the Rubber Duck. You gotta copy on me Pig Pen c'mon? Ah yeah 10-4, Pig Pen fer sure fer sure. By golly it's clean clear to Flag Town c'mon. Yeah that's a big 10-4 there Pig Pen. yeah we definitely got the front door good buddy. Mercy sakes alive looks like we got us a convoy."
"Cause we got a little convoy
rockin' through the night
Yeah we got a little convoy
ain't she a beautiful sight
Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way.
We gonna roll this truckin' convoy
Cross the USA."
:-) :-) :-) :-)
Better stop before I type up the whole song.
But the song I was thinking of was “Round the World with the Rubber Duck” (sequel to convoy for you non truckers)
I would start it but people might get it confused with convoy. :-)
I should probably be getting to bed now.

Peter,
What I gather from the preceeding posts is that 1) Congrats Sir!!, 2) If Peter is on the road, stay off the sidewalks (or better yet, stay INSIDE), 3) hell, neither the sidewalks, roads, NOR first level of a building are safe, 4) If you are expecting a furniture delivery, expect replacements...sorta soon, 5) hehehehehhe Got MY CDL-B. You're pushing furniture and I (was) pushing PEOPLE.......Man, help WHOM!?!??!?!?!? :-) :-)
Trucking pay seems pretty good here....Time for a visit???
