Wasn’t sure where this should go so I’ll put it here.

I was cleaning out the gun cabinet and found some things you guys might be interested in.

1st are some boxes of ammo from the Korean War.

These are old boxes of M2 Ball 30-06 rounds that I got from my grandfather.
As the story goes a few of my uncles fighting on the ground in Korea were issued these boxes (or stolen by them.) With the 30-06 being a common hunting rifle and most of them having one back home they hid some of there ammo and managed to get it sent back home. After the war they came back home and used the ammo for hunting.
My grandfather was giving some of the ammo as well (he was in the navy during the war and wasn’t around large amounts of rifle ammo)
A few years ago he gave me most of his guns and ammo including these few remaining boxes.

I have no interest in using them and will rather be keeping them. But I have fires a few of the round that won’t in any boxes. I can say they still work after all these years. Just not the most accurate ammo around.

I also took a picture of this old toy of mine.

It’s a Champion 12Ga shotgun that was made in the 1902.
The guns not currently fireable (the chamber doesn’t close tightly anymore) and has developed a slight rust problem.
I intend on seeing if its possible to remove the rust from it and fix the chamber without having to get new parts. If so I’m going to try and get someone to fix it up.

Any way just thought some of you guys out there interested in old guns and ammo may want to see these.

Neat pics Jacob. I wouldn't shoot them either since they're keepsakes from your family. But personally, I shoot surplus ammo almost exclusively. I have 8mm and 7.62 x 54 that shoots like it was made yesterday even though it's 50 years old. It is corrosive, but as long as you clean the rifle correctly, that's not a problem.

For the rust problem on your 12 ga, you can try motor oil and some 0000 steel wool. You can then use some cold bluing compound to re-blue the areas you cleaned.

Thanks for the advice Cary.

I’ll try that on the outside of the gun but my main concern is that the internal parts are a little rusty as well.
When my grandfather noticed it didn’t close properly he stuck the gun out in the damp garage so no one would accidently try shooting it.

And I completely agree with you that older ammo is safe to fire. I’ve used a lot of it before and there was only ever one box of ammo I hade a problem with. It was for the 22Mag and only went off half the time.
Of course I have some old shotgun shells that I don’t feel safe firing. There the old paper ones and are now rotting.
