We was having a rather rambling discussion at work yesterday and it flowed into this question:

If you inflate a tyre with 5bar of pressure (for arguments sake), does it weigh more than an uninflated tyre?

There would be 5 times the ammount of air in the inflated tyre. Air has to weigh something. doesn't it?

It would have to since you're adding matter, air, to a closed system. If you were to add a component gas of regular air, you would lighten the tire. I'm not sure you're adding five times the amount ot increase the pressure. A smaller volume tire will increase in pressure per square inch or cm faster than a large volume tire.
