Seller's payment instructions
Combine Shipping: We offer £0.55 or US$1less for the S/H charge of the 2nd, 3nd, 4th ...... items (unless specify on the auction pages). For example, if you won 3 items, each £9.5 or US$17.5 for shipping, then combined shipping rate would be £(9.5+8.95+8.95) = £27.4 or US$(17.5+15.5+15.5)=US$48.5

BArv:

This is an ever growing thing that u see on Ebay now. Another great thing that some users put in small print is handling fees. I chalk this all up to marketing.

I have seen this happen. Low starting bid - huge shipping and handling.

Ebay charges you on a sliding scale based on your opening bid. So sellers try to get just under the 'charge point' to save money.
(note- that's the way it was 2-3 years ago when I sold some stuff, may have changed since then)

Just another reason to read all the fine print, and ask the questions before you bid.
Oh that's part of one of the "I'll make you rich on Ebay" TV commercial.

Ebay stands for "Extortion Bay" by the way.

I've seen this kind of thing before. Buy the item for £1 and pay £19 for postage. It is away around ebay fees I think, as they are based on the cost of the sale alone, not the sale + postage

It has put me off a number of sales in the past.

I don't see anything ethically wrong with this as long as everything is posted up front. You, the consumer, are expected to read the information provided and decide whether or not you want to pay that fee for shipping and handling.

Sim:

IIRC correctly, u hit the nail right on the head. You need to pay a percentage of what u sold an item for to ebay. S&H fees arent included.

That just happened to me - I entered into a "buy it now" for a $5.00 item and the shipping cost was $50.00 - I asked the seller to "adjust" shipping and send me an invoice. The shipping got knocked down to $6.00. The seller was in Ohio and I live in Tennessee - it took a week to get to me and the actual postage cost.... 63 cents. Maybe the envelope cost $5.37 :-)
That's what I get for bidding on the 1st one I saw. Oh well, I got what I wanted -life goes on.
