Hello everyone.

As far as airbrushes and compressors go, what is the best buy for your buck. I'm fairly new to modeling (WW2 Armour), I have a Badger 200 which I find good for general spraying (large areas, base coats etc.), but I find I get to much oversray and splatter when I try to get real close for doing fine lines and detail. The compressor I'm using does not hold the psi very well so I'm in the market for this as well. I like the idea of the gravity feed which eliminates bottles and caps, but I dont feel expierenced enough for a dual action yet. What do recommend??

Thanks for your help.

Rick,

I started out with a Testors single action and the stupid canned air. I still have the Testors, but use a Craftsman 3-gallon compressor. The pressure is set pretty low (10-15 psi?) and I've had no problems with moisture or spatter (spatter is caused by the PSI). The Testors was cheap and has done me well since I bought it.....probably one of the easiest to use for the "beginning stages."

With that, I am now looking HARD at a Badger 150 dual. I'm graduating to a dual after talking to a friend (Red4) about it's ease of use and control. He showed me how easy it is to make it "kinda" single action; it's still dual, but not as intimidating. Duals have always "scared" me, ya know?

Something else he showed me was a CO2 bottle (20 pound?) that will last about a year. I'll be looking into a company called AirGas here in the states (Colorado) that carries them. In Canada, I'm sure you have the same type of company with the same products.

Something to consider. Check eBay for the airbrushes....the Badgers are pretty inexpensive there.

Agreed. CO2 is the way to go. Even with a water trap, in high humidity my compressor will spit water out. CO2 eliminates the problem.

I use a 20cuft CO2 rig as well..... Last time i filled it it was 13-15 bucks...... Get a Dual action gravity feed..... I 've gone through 3 AB's and now kinda regret starting on a single action....

Yes, ther's a learning curve... but Practice Practice and Practice some more!!!!!!
