what your girlfriend thinks of your hobby?
My girlfriend sees it as a way of chilling, from a hard day at work.

My wife bought me an assortment of Evergeen Odd's and Ends for Christmas and made me a chocolate tank for valentines day. I think that's a very good sign of things to come. I hope to not abuse her support though and agree with Jackhammer that everything must be done in proportion.

She thinks I'm a lovable nerd... I can live with that!
That said, she knows more about Shermans now than possibly any other woman in Melbourne... :-) (and where the History channel is)

The girlfriend thinks it is great. The wife, well, not so much.

I agree with Brad (Honeycut), my girl thinks I'm a loveable geek. She encourages me when I need it and "Oohs" and "Ahhs" when I show her stuff. She has really no interest in the models, but, since HER father is a American Flyer, 1/64 modeler, she came into the relationship supportive and is looking forward to my N Scale layout to be done. She doesn't rag on me for my ebay buys unless I go too far (you guys all know about doing that! :-) ) AND she's an award winning, published photographer. Handy-Dandy, eh?
As far as time to model, she doesn't give me too hard of a time unless I spend the whole weekend in the workshop. Like Jackhammer says,
(By the way, Kev, it's "your better-halves" ...or is it? Hmmm now you have me thinking....maybe "your better's half...??? Ain't that a noodle-scratcher?)
Anyway, I hope your lady digs it enough to support you, but, not enough to "borrow" your tools. :-)
Laters,
Cuhail

Great question which deserves a great answer,,
My girlfriend (at the time) thought it was great thing, im at home not out "messing" around. She was tolerant and told me she had no problem with it AT ALL.
Fast forward to now....the dark ages....
My wife (now) mentions why I keep buying, can I build less, even though I do not build even a quarter as much as I did (happy days
). Now sneak in kits, paint, what-not's, etc hoping not to get caught.
Actually it sounds worse then it is, but the difference from g.friend to wife is like night and day.

There are more girls in this world than a limited run of Dragon M4A1 75mm Early. One is much easier to replace than the other.

Well, my Wife thinks it's a great stress reliever for both of us. She also says I can do what I want with my 'allowance' and even tolerates the stash as long as I keep it in my den/hobby room. My "girlfriend" wonders why I spent so much time on it and not more time with her. But she's only 5 and Granddaughters just don't understand 'old' people that well :-)

I get a lot more support now that I've changed back to figures. Shelves covered with OD / green tanks'n'trucks all over the lounge were starting to make me unpopular around the place!

No support what so ever. Just see it as a waste of money and of time (to spend with her?)...

That's interesting Dave. My wife didn't mind me painting a couple of larger scale figures for my Dad for his Birthday & Christmas. She absolutely won't have all those "horrible war & Hitler things in the house, with 3 daughters", although books are OK. So the tanks & 1/35th figures are all in the garage, which they share with my other "hobby". Maybe it's a woman thing. On the whole she's tolerant - I think she's just glad I don't smoke or go down the pub much - & at least I'm not chasing other women (can't catch them any more!). I can't complain - she accepts that our next house will have to have a double garage!

My young and spritely wife is very supportive of my hobby... In fact, she's pretty strict about the money I spend on it... she ensures that the money I put aside every month for models is spent on models and the money for paint is spent on paint and so on and so on...
I guess the reason she's so supportive is because she herself is an artist, doing wildlife portraits in chalk pastel and pencil, some oil painting, card making and scrapbooking...
Her biggest nit-pick about this hobby is actually the amount of time I spend on Armorama... she figures I should be spending that time actually modelling, and not talking about it... :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
