A question about MEK

I have been using the testers plastic weld for some time that is MEK. while on a trip to my local lowes I find a largecan of MEK same stuff? well this stuff work the same way or is testors a blended with someting else?

Over here MEK is a plastic pipe cleaning fluid,which is a supeb model glue.
I dont know how it would compare to the testors stuff,but I've been using MEK for years,it make a very strong joint, drys very quickly and is a dam sight cheaper that a small bottle of "proper" plastic weld
The only draw backs are,the fumes and the evaperation rate,I pour a small ammount into a used Tamiya paint jar.
A 500ml tin of MEK will last years

Yep same stuff....... but pwersonally i'd use a resparator or work wit it outdoors....... really NASTY stuff (chemical wise)

From some time working in the print trade where MEKwas one of the chemicals used for the cleaning of printing machinery there is one other consideration alongside it being so volatile.
Whilst many people are giving up smoking there are those who choose to continue to do so and we were told not to smoke for some time after using MEK as aside from the obvious ignition hazards there is some issue where it combined with smoke to create a greater cancer hazard.

I just thought this is a useful addon to the knowledge written in this thread.
