Hi folks,
Our ARV mad friend BARV :-) needs some info and pics on the 2 Comet Maintenance Repair Vehicles (R90530 & R90550) situated at 4VRP, Wallmansthal (the Reservce Park 50km's north of Pretoria/Tswane).
Can anyone help him out?
TIA
Rudi

That pic I think was taken at the armor school in Tempe. I remember seeing it in the SA Soldier in an article about a conference on armor in africa held at Tempe. I am traveling down there for nationals and to research SA vehicles. I will take alot pics if I find it.

To my knowledge it was only known as a Comet ARV. It never was redesignated an animal name as was standard practice here until '94. But I concur ugly it definately is. Only an engineer or mother can love something like that.

Weren't only the locally designed/re-designed vehicles/aircraft designated "local" names?
For example the name Olifant/Elephant was only given to the redesigned/retooled Centurions - the Centurion Mk 3's and 5's were still known as Centurions. Similarly the Cheetah is distinguishable from the original Mirage...

Jip but that would place the ARV in that class as it was converted here by OMC. I think most of the original Comets we bought went that way. I will ask Pierre when I see him on friday.

Going down in June. To be honest when I got there I was so stoked I forgot about taking profiles of the vehicle instead of just detail. You will notice I did it for the rest though.
But I can go one better I will send you some video footage of a walk around of it. Will that help.

No prob though. If there is anything else give me shout. If I don't have it I will find it.
Goes for anyone here. If it is SADF it will try to help or point you in the right direction to a guy who does know.
