Need to know the advice ofpeople who are a little more experienced in life than the 16 year old i am

Last friday my father picked up my order at the lhs note that this is writting on an invoice which marks a place to mark the total of taxes)
-6 bottles of tamiya paint: 27.55$
-1 testor side feed cup:6.00$
-1 testor mix bottle set:9.80$
-1 testor acrylic nozzle :18.50$
Then he skipped the gst and pst boxes (we pay two taxes in my province)
and in the total writes 71.10$ now that is the total with taxes, and he doesnt show the one without.

Also, the last time i went to buy some putty and paint he told me he rounded the price and included the tax in hi original price... so i paid a flat price and when my father was their he heard hte owner tell a client he didnt have to pay taxes.

What i wish to know is: Is it no illegal to not declare the amount paid for taxes on a receipt? I feel like hes stealing my 10 bucks of tax and putting it in his pockets and instead of declaring it...

Should i do anything? Not that i care about the 10 dollars but iam pissed of to see i get F***** over by an hours pay in taxes i didnt have to pay previously and hte guy before my father didnt pay.

I don't know about the laws in Canada but in the US if a state has sales tax, not all do, it has to be collected. The tax can be either included in the price of the item, or it can be charged separately. Most stores charge it separately. My wife has a small business and she includes it in the price, then delcares it on her own taxes at the end of the year. It's just easier for her to do it that way.

Francois, no offence, the U.S. ain't the answer to all prayers or societies, but at least when I buy something the end run is quoted first, which proves all Americans are from Missouri, Harry S. Truman for president !!!!!

Frank your total included the taxes....
you paid your taxes, if he doesn't, and gets caught, he gets the fines and jail time, not you. It's his risk, not yours.
If he's cheating on the Tax issue, I'm sure the great white northern IRS will eventually catch up with him.....

I'm wearing my RCMP rugby shirt as I write this, eh. And if that hoser is cheating on his taxes, well, the Mounties always get their man. And if he does do jail time, there's always someone looking for his new bonne femme.

"scared straight"

Rahway State Prison is the former and still most commonly used name for the East Jersey State Prison, a prison facility of the state of New Jersey's Department of Correction.

The prison served as the filming location for the documentary Scared Straight! The prison is also the birthplace of the Lifers' Group, in which prison inmates participate in a government-sponsored rap music program, recording such songs as "The Real Deal" and "Belly of the Beast" to discourage children from becoming criminals. The prison's distinctive architecture, with its large dome and imposing metal gates, has appeared in many films including Lock Up, Crazy Joe, Rounders, Malcolm X, and Ocean's Eleven.

Frank, yes, there are, or were, towns where the dominant ethnic group was French Canadian. My parents generation (born in the 1920, for the most part) was primarily French speaking. My home town, Southbridge, had two French Canadian parishes, each with its own grammar school and a section refered to as "Petit Canada." My lineage includes Mitzivier, Marcheseault, Laroche, Peron, and, of course, LaFleche. My best friend is a Carrier whose English ancestor was captured at Deerfield in 1604 and brought to Canada as an unredeemed captive and whose progeny would eventually return to Massachusetts as a French Candian family. Another of his ancestors led the Indians against Braddock in the French and Indian War.

Hi Francois,

I can only tell you how it works in South Africa...

Many years ago we had GST... in that case businesses were required to indicate both a inclusive and exclusive price on each item. On the sales invoice the inclusive and exclusive total of the purchases must be displayed along with the tax amount.

About 15 years ago we changed to VAT. Essentially the same thing (i.e. the tax man gets his cut), however now the reseller is not required to show inclusive and exclusive amounts. The price you see on the item is what you pay, and there is seldom a VAT amount on the invoice.

An important point to note is that any business generating more than a certain amount of revenue per annum is required to register for VAT. If the business's annual revenue is so low so as not to be VAT registered the owner is still required to declare this as personal income.

Your scenario sounds dodgy... personally if it were me, I'd do some enquiries at the local Revenue Services (tax) office to determine whether the business is registered for tax... In SA if you report someone for tax evasion or tax avoidance, and they manage to find the person/enterprise guitly, the person/enterprise will receieve hefty fines and naturally be required to pay those back-taxes -- and you can receive a "finder's fee" (which is naturally taxable :-) )...

My 0.02 VAT-free ZAR
